How to get rid of ingrown hairs?

The main cause of hair ingrowth into the skin is improper shaving. When a hair is cut, its tip is curved, as a result of which the direction of growth changes, and thus ingrowth occurs.

If the hair removal is carried out in a different way, then the reappearance of the hairs is accompanied by a finer structure. A weak hair cannot cut through the epithelial cells, which leads to ingrowth.

The risk of friction with clothing increases, so special attention should be paid to the bikini area, armpits, and legs. Contact with irritating factors increases the risk of infection through open wounds after hair removal.

Ingrown hairs that appear must be removed correctly:

  • it is necessary to steam a certain area of the body in a hot bath or with a compress
  • remove ingrown hairs using sterile clean tweezers
  • after removal, it is imperative to disinfect the place so that infection and dirt particles do not get inside

In no case should you squeeze out the hairs with your hands, which leads to injury to the skin and its inflammation.

In order to prevent ingrowth, it is necessary to follow simple rules for epilation:

  • shaving should be in the direction of growth
  • immediately before epilation, it is advisable to cleanse the skin with a scrub and soften it with special means
  • after shaving, the surface of the skin should be disinfected to prevent inflammation
  • with increased skin sensitivity, it is recommended to stop shaving or reduce the frequency of procedures
  • if ingrown hairs appear after using an electric razor, it is advisable to replace it with a razor
  • when washing, use a hard washcloth, which allows you to remove the dead layer of the epithelium

This will make it easier for weak hairs to cut through the skin.

Modern cosmetic companies produce special products designed to prevent ingrown hairs. Their action is based on removing irritation after epilation, softening the skin, exfoliating dead epithelial cells, and slowing down hair growth. Such lotions and balms are applied immediately before the procedure and after epilation, as a result of which the problem of ingrown hairs quickly disappears forever.
