PSYchology

Influence, impact — an action or process that produces a change in someone or something. Something that made a significant one-time change in the addressee: a person or a group of people. For example, this is a change in the functional state of the partner, his intentions or behavior.

Influence is more of a natural process, impact is more artificial: what a person does specifically and intentionally. Such a precise distinction between the two is of little justification, since the two are generally used interchangeably in literature and conversation. Sometime we will write «influence», sometime — «impact».

The topic of influence, and especially effective influence, is of interest only to active people who want to influence people and the world. People in a passive or defensive position have little interest in the topic of influence, they are more often concerned with topics of protection (how to resist other people’s influence) or simply find an explanation for why everything works out this way …

They influence others, the world and themselves — everything and always, although in different ways and in different forms. Influence can be rational and not, open and hidden, intentional and accidental, lawful and beyond the scope of civilized relations… — see Types and forms of influence. Main Influence Styles: Strength, Dushka, and Tactician style.

The formula for effective influence: a smart man with an iron hand in a velvet glove. Influence is more effective when the source of influence is strong, and the addressee of influence is open (disposed) to influence. If not located, then unprotected or weakened. See Psychology of Influence
