Vasculitis and lymphadenitis is a complication of a streptococcal infection caused by injury. A linear reddening of the skin (red streak) on the forearm, extending even to the arm, is often seen as a result of pricks, abrasions of the epidermis and infection of the finger. Treatment of this ailment is based on taking antibiotics and painkillers.
Symptoms of vasculitis and lymphadenitis
Due to the stinging, chafing of the epidermis and infection of the finger, you can often notice a linear reddening of the skin (red streak) on the forearm, which extends even to the upper arm. At the same time, the lymph nodes in the elbow or the armpit get bigger. They are palpable and painful. Infection is spreading along the lymphatic vessels. In the lymph nodes, which act as a filter for bacteria, they are stopped.
Some people believe that the appearance of a red streak is a symptom of infection. This word often causes panic, because it is most often equated with blood poisoning, and therefore with a general infection. Meanwhile, an infection has been developing in the finger for some time and resembles a local infection. Similar inflammation may affect the lower limb. We can then notice enlarged and painful lymph nodes in the groin. Again, the cause of vasculitis and lymphadenitis should be sought around the perimeter of the limb.
Inflammation of the vessels and lymph nodes
In the treatment of vasculitis and lymphadenitis, the following are used:
- an acid compress under the oilcloth for the area of inflamed vessels and lymph nodes;
- stiffening of the limb (with changes in the upper limb – a sling, and in the case of changes in the lower limb – lying in bed with the limb placed higher);
- the use of sulfonamides or antibiotics – this should be decided by the doctor.
Note: It is important for a physician to establish the cause of vasculitis and lymphadenitis and to treat the primary infection at the same time.
