Supporters of body positivity will not like this, but the fact remains that it is more beneficial for health to keep yourself in shape.
Not so long ago, everyone was talking about the cover of the magazine, which featured the famous plus-size model Tess Holliday. Supporters of body positivity celebrated the victory: finally, the bodies of skinny fashion models were no longer considered the standard of beauty. But those who did not clap their hands were the doctors. God be with them, with the standards of beauty, but excess weight is definitely not useful for health. And in the case of the 155-kilogram model, it is harmful and even deadly.
“This girl is sick. She is obese, “Holliday commented on the photo.
“This is an incredible load on the articular apparatus. Muscles and connective tissues groan, cry, and atrophy. The amount of estrogen is off the charts, because fat is a depot of estrogen. Calibration of all organs of internal secretion is knocked down, all enzyme systems are creaking, ”the doctor said bluntly.
Yes, perhaps this is too categorical. But true. Even if you do not take into account all the other problems, such as the risk of heart attack, arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, obesity – these are often problems with conception. The fact is that fat itself is an endocrine organ that produces estrogens. An excess of these hormones affects ovulation – it is increasingly of poor quality, the egg simply does not mature. In addition, too much estrogen leads to endometriosis, fibroids and uterine fibroids. And these are also factors of infertility. And even IVF in obese women works 30 percent worse than usual.
“But Tess has children, two sons,” fans of the plus-size model would argue.
Yes it is. But the fact that someone is lucky is not a rule. Because statistics say: more and more obesity becomes the cause of primary infertility. And why experiment on your own health? After all, pregnancy is already stress for the body. And if he still has to somehow survive under a pile of extra pounds, this is triple stress. This is why doctors are sounding the alarm: they believe that Tess Holliday is promoting the principles of unhealthy lifestyles that lead to many diseases by her example.
Fortunately, overweight infertility is often reversible. It is worth losing weight, as everything will return to normal – this is what happened to a couple who had to lose almost 150 kilos for two so that the girl could conceive. Sasha Cherno, the 125-kilogram star of “House-2”, also decided to lose weight – she is worried that she will not be able to bear the child normally because of her weight. However, there are other reasons that can prevent you from getting pregnant. And everyone is somehow connected with our way of life.
1. You work at night
Scientists from Harvard University published the results of another study in 2017: it turns out that women who work the night shift are more likely to suffer from infertility. They produce 28 percent fewer eggs than those who go to work during the day. Researchers believe that this may be due to a malfunction of the woman’s circadian rhythm, that is, the biological processes associated with the change of day and night are disrupted.
2. You carry weights
The same study notes another nuance: if a woman’s work is associated with lifting weights, then her body produces 14 percent fewer eggs than the body of women working in physically light production. And the quality of the eggs produced by the body of a woman carrying weights is much worse than that of the one who works, for example, as an office manager. Scientists believe that fertility in women is affected by the stress caused by overwork.
3. Drink too much soda
In 2016, scientists found that a love of non-alcoholic (!) Drinks can reduce your chances of getting pregnant to zero. The fact is that artificial sweeteners are added to diet soda. They are, according to scientists, one of the factors leading to infertility. Too much sugar, in turn, reduces the quality of the eggs.
Either way, drinking soda in excess can lead to obesity and diabetes. Both, in turn, lead to infertility.
4. Eat fast food (even if you are not overweight)
We have already figured out everything about obesity. But even if you do not have excess weight, you throw nuggets or burgers from time to time without harm to your figure, and this can significantly reduce your chances of getting pregnant. Two American studies have shown that trans fats, which are stuffed with fast food, can cause ovarian disease. Men, do not flatter yourself: garbage food also affects the quality of sperm.
5. Stress at work
Incredible, but true: women in the financial sector are much more likely to face the problem of infertility than teachers. Higher salaries are yes. But the work is too nervous – so much that it affects the ability to conceive. Scientists say that all women who work in male-oriented industries are at risk. But those who decided to devote themselves to PR, sales and marketing are faced with the problem of infertility much less often.
6. Breaking the rule of 7 glasses
The media are full of publications about the benefits of wine – and a visit to the gym will replace it, and an evening walk, and in the eyes of the opposite sex will make you prettier. But. Danish scientists studied more than 6000 women between the ages of 21 and 45 and found that those who drank more than 7 glasses of wine a week had an 18 percent lower chance of conceiving than their sober counterparts. Plus the regular stress that some people drink with wine …
7. You have intact appendix and tonsils
Research so research – lasted 15 years. As a result, it was found that women who had their appendix removed increased their chances of conceiving by 34 percent. Those who had their tonsils removed improved their capabilities even more – the probability of conception increased by 49 percent. If both are removed, the chances of pregnancy increase by 43 percent.
8. You are kissing the wrong people
Italian scientists tackled inexplicable infertility from the other side. 43 percent of the participants in their study were infected with one of the types of herpes. This type of virus cannot be detected in a blood test. It “nests” in the salivary glands. And it spreads not even sexually, but with kisses. And then it fouls the whole body.
9. Your man sleeps too much. Or little
Guys generally love to lie in bed. And this is harmful. However, if a man saves on sleep, this is also bad. A survey of over 700 American couples found that men who slept more than 9 or less than 6 hours a night reduced their chances of conceiving by more than 40 percent. This is probably due to testosterone levels – it is produced at night. The maximum fertility in a man occurs when he sleeps an average of 8 hours a day. However, trying to restrict a man in his sleep, according to scientists, will cause one unpleasant side effect: your boyfriend will become grumpy.
