Infectious meningitis and encephalitis – symptoms, treatment

These are complications from the central nervous system in the course of some infectious diseases, such as measles, chicken pox, rubella, influenza, and common parotitis (mumps).

Most often, this complication accompanies the development of measles and mumps.

symptoms

Typically, during the underlying disease, symptoms appearing that the central nervous system is inflamed, such as headaches, increased fever and vomiting. In addition, in encephalitis, disturbances of consciousness, neurological and mental disorders are added.

Prognosis

In measles encephalomyelitis, the prognosis is serious – 25% of patients die, in mumps – the prognosis is quite good.

Treatment all types of post-infectious inflammations of the central nervous system are carried out in a hospital.
