Client Request: “Hello everyone! Help me please. Such a problem: I entered the university I wanted to go to. I study in absentia, a session is in a month, but I simply have no desire to study. It didn’t happen before! I always studied well at school, I prepared well for the exam, I passed it myself, without spurs, well. There were never any problems with studies. And here I don’t even worry about exams, just some kind of indifference to study. It seems that with my mind I understand that I need to prepare, study, but in my heart I just don’t want to do anything, I sit down to study, and my hands fall. Has anyone encountered such a situation? Tell me, please, because of what this is and what to do. (author’s text saved)
UPP student Tatyana Shevtsova answers:
When I graduated from high school, it seemed to me that I was working at the limit of my capabilities. Final exams, preparation for entering the university … I had to spin from morning to evening to keep up with everything. After entering the University, I found that the workload increased even more. Everyday issues were added to my studies, because I studied away from my parental home and lived in a student hostel, establishing contact with new people, a new mode of the educational process, new rules and procedures of the educational institution. Sometimes they just gave up. But, despite all this, it was not difficult for me to enter the new rhythm of life of a first-year student.
I’m guessing you’re in a similar situation right now. That’s why she worries you so much now. But you will see for yourself how in the second year, and perhaps even at the end of the first, it will become much easier for you. In the third year you will feel confident, and in the fourth year you will even smile, looking at the freshmen and recognizing yourself and your previous difficulties in them.
Your current situation, connected with the lack of desire to do what is necessary (namely, to study), is not very pleasant, but it is completely solvable!
Let’s start with cause. What could be your current state?
- Maybe a taskwhich now stands in front of you, it seems you too big. Passing the first session in life, being a first-year student, really seems to be a more difficult task than studying at school. You still do not have the well-deserved authority that was at school, the teachers are new, the subjects are new, instead of the usual classmates, completely new unfamiliar students. All this complicates and increases the scale of the problem to be solved. Therefore, I recommend that you break this large and difficult task into small ones that you are quite capable of. First prepare the test, then the exam. You have already successfully passed exams at school and you know that if you prepare well, then everything goes well. Just start working on those tasks that you understand and are easy to do, and do not try to load yourself with everything at once.
- Your condition may be associated with some trouble.who were previously (perhaps in school, a conflict with a teacher or students, or personal troubles). These events may prevent you from focusing on your studies. Try to analyze these events, if they really were, so that in the future they do not interfere with your learning. After all, troubles are an integral part of life, they should not prevent us from doing what we need. When you have a child, you will not refuse to cook porridge for him because someone ruined your mood, right?
- Maybe you’re just tired. If you didn’t sleep much, for example, watched TV at night or talked on the Internet all night long, then the accumulated fatigue sooner or later makes itself felt. In the form of weakness, drowsiness, etc. And in this case, you need rest. And also restore the daily routine: go to bed on time, get enough sleep, eat healthy food, drink more water, do exercises. If the reason is fatigue, then in a few weeks of a new lifestyle it is quite possible to fully recover and gain the energy you need now!
If the reasons for your condition are still in something else, I will offer a few more recommendations for you.
- First, the set your goals regarding study. How do you see your future in 5 years, when you graduate from the institute? How will you feel during graduation? What do you see, hear? Who is with you at this joyful moment, what do they tell you? What will happen in 10 years when you gain the necessary experience in the profession? You are a sought-after and professional specialist who does what you love. Who surrounds you, what do you see around you, what do you hear and feel? How do you like what you see? How badly do you want it? Now imagine that what you are doing now (namely, studying) is the steps towards your goal that are necessary for its implementation!
- Second, the organize yourself to complete these steps. How?
1. Highlight, for example, daily 20 minutes a day to study. Choose a time when you can study and make a promise to yourself to work every day. Come up with a penalty for not keeping or a reward for keeping that promise. For example, if I lasted a week and worked out every day, I go to the spa with my friends (encouragement), or if I missed 1 day, I squat 50 times (penalty).
2. Find yourself a partner. It is better to choose from the students you study with so that you can help each other and remind you to complete your study assignments. So it will be easier for you to organize yourself and control yourself. Yes, working together is much more interesting!
