The so-called the Indian variant of the coronavirus has been recognized as more dangerous than before. Public Health England on Friday described it as “disturbing” and admitted that it may be spreading better than the basic version of the virus.
The publication mentions the Indian variant of the coronavirus (B.1.617), and more specifically – one of its variants – B.1.617.2. Until now, the Indian mutation was considered “interesting”. Now the threat level has been raised for one of the varieties as “disturbing”.
The change of qualifications was informed by the doctor. Bartosz Fiałek on Facebook, explaining the difference between the degrees of danger. In the doctor’s post we read:
“Attention!
Unfortunately, the so-called the Indian variant has just been classified as worrying.
Let me remind you of the epidemic division of the SARS-2 coronavirus variants:
See (variants of interest), which are variants that we need to look at, but don’t panic as we don’t know their transmission or impact on the immune response.
VoCs (variants of concern)variants that we should be concerned about because they have a better / faster spread, may cause a more severe course of COVID-19, including higher mortality, may also escape the immune response (weaken the COVID-19 response and / or the vaccine response). immune).
So far, the so-called Indian variant (B.1.617) was included in VoIs. In the latest publication of Public Health England, the qualification for B.1.617, and more specifically for one of its varieties / branches – B.1.617.2, has been changed from the variant of interest (VoI) to the variant of concern (VoC) ».
Indian mutation of the virus. Where does this change in threat come from?
As explained by the drug. Bartosz Fiałek, on the basis of the mutation profile contained in variant B.1.617.2, it was estimated that it could spread better than the wild variant SARS-CoV-2, and also spread with the same power as the most infectious British virus to date ( B.1.1.7), which is about 60 percent. stronger than the wild variant.
“At the moment, we do not know whether this variant will also escape the natural and / or artificial immune response (i.e. it will no longer be sensitive to antibodies produced after COVID-19 disease / COVID-19 vaccination)” – explains the doctor and warns that such the re-qualification of B.1.617.2 necessitates taking more radical steps.
- Pfizer’s vaccine against COVID-19 works against two new mutations in the virus
Bow. Bartosz Fiałek – a rheumatologist and promoter of medical knowledge during the COVID-19 pandemic – has also published a number of conclusions and recommendations, which – in his opinion – result from the risk of the Indian coronavirus mutation. In the Facebook post we read:
«My conclusions:
- We take off protective masks in the open air in places where we do not come into contact with others (beaches, forests, parks, meadows).
- we still wear protective masks in the open air in places where we come in contact with other people (crowded streets, bus / tram stops) and in confined spaces.
- due to the appearance of B.1.617.2 in Europe (Great Britain), EVERY person returning from abroad should be subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine, during which two tests should be performed – RT-PCR method – for the presence of SARS infection -CoV-2 (at the airport and on the 2th day of stay in Poland; negative results – release from quarantine, positive result – isolation) ».
Indian mutation in Poland – how many cases?
Data posted on the website “Monitor of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Europe” say about 5 Indian mutation sequences of the virus identified in Poland by the end of April. A few days ago, the health ministry informed about a dozen cases of the variety, and on May 6, Minister Niedzielski provided data on two new outbreaks located near Warsaw.
