Increasing the number of rollbacks in Excel 2003

Contents

Button Undo the last action (Undo)in new versions of Excel 2007-2010, it “remembers” as many as 100 recent actions, and in Excel 2003 and older, only a maximum of 16. This is the so-called “stack of previous states”. And if 100 is usually more than enough, then with 16 you can’t really clear up.

However, by making small changes to the Windows registry, you can easily increase the size of this stack from the standard 16 to 100 even for older versions, and undo, accordingly, much more erroneous actions.

For this…

Close all open Excel windows, if any.

Click on StartRun (Start — Run), in the window that opens, enter the command REGEDIT

and press OK. The Registry Editor will open.

Please perform all further operations very carefully – careless handling of the registry can lead to the complete inoperability of the operating system and programs!

In the left pane of the editor, open a branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Further – Software, Further – Microsoft, Further – Office. Find a subfolder Office 11.0, and in it – Excel and finally, Options… Open the folder Options:

Now choose from the menu Edit – New – DWORD Value:

A new option will appear in the right pane. Enter his name UndoHistory and press Enter. Now open the created parameter by double clicking and set its value 100 в Decimal calculation system:

After clicking on OK in the end it should look something like this:

All! Close the registry editor and try – now your Excel can undo not 16, but as many as 100 of the last actions!

PS

There are several situations after which the state stack is cleared regardless of its size and version of Excel. This, for example, saving a document (only in Excel 2003), deleting a sheet, running a macro, etc. Unfortunately, our setting will not be able to influence this in any way – we will have to put up with it.
