Inchmurrin

Inchmurrin (Inchmarrin) is a single malt whiskey from the Island Collection series of the Loch Lomond distillery. The brand has gained popularity only in recent decades, since earlier the plant sent most of the spirits to the production of blends. Whiskey of this brand is distinguished by a rich fruity taste and herbaceous-floral aroma. Inchmurrin’s permanent releases include drinks aged 12 to 21.

Historical information

The first Loch Lomond distillery was founded next to the lake of the same name in 1814 and worked for only three years. In 1964, the owners of Littlemill decided to build a state-of-the-art, high-volume plant in the area. Distillation cubes of various designs were installed in the workshops, which made it possible to produce a large assortment of whiskey. However, the brand was unknown to a wide range of buyers, since the company sold all alcohol after three years of aging to other companies for mixing in blends.

The company successfully worked until the crisis that the industry experienced in the 1980s. The owners mothballed production and began to look for an opportunity to get rid of the distillery. The plant was acquired by A. Bulloch & Co in 1987, and the enterprise has started working again after three years of inactivity.

The new owners had unique equipment and huge stocks of aged spirits at their disposal, but marketing had to start almost from scratch. The company has focused on the production of single malt whiskey and the promotion of new and existing brands. This policy paid off, and Loch Lomond’s products became widely known. In June 2019, the company became part of the Chinese holding Hillhouse Capital.

Whiskey Inchmurrin distillery has been producing since 1966. The brand was named after the largest island in Loch Lomond. Distillation of spirits takes place in distillation cubes of a special design, which are called straight neck stills. Alambicas with a round base and a long neck are equipped with distillation plates inside, and are cooled with ice water on the outside. The equipment allows you to get a rich distillate with a fruity taste with a strength of 85 degrees. The whiskey is aged in second-fill American oak barrels to avoid harsh woody tones in the bouquet.
