In times of a pandemic, how can you relieve stress and regain your balance? There is a good way to do this

We are perhaps one of the most stressed nations in Europe. The pandemic increased this tension, but also fear, anxiety, even terror. Added to this is the pre-Christmas fever. How to control all of this, regain balance, and even the joy of life? There is a way – simple, but difficult at the same time.

Poles live under stress and fear

Stress is an integral part of the day for most of us. According to the National Health Test of Poles prepared by Medonet, 55% of people experience stressful situations at least several times a week. of us (including daily experiences – 24 percent). We are stressed by work, unpleasant situations in private life, finances. The pandemic that lasted for months has exacerbated this condition.

Over 70 percent of Poles surveyed feel the negative psychological effects of COVID-19 – according to a survey conducted in early December (he launched the nationwide campaign # NASZAwtymGŁOWA). Among the respondents (a representative group of over a thousand Poles took part in the survey), there are emotions such as fear, anxiety, fear and even horror in relation to the situation related to the coronavirus. Recently, probably everyone has experienced difficult emotions related to the uncertainty of tomorrow, isolation from loved ones, loneliness or inconvenience resulting from remote work or remote education.

  1. We usually dream of peace. Now we have it in abundance and we feel bad

Now there is also the pre-Christmas fever and the pressure it entails. Because although COVID-19 has placed many restrictions on Christmas, each of us wants it to be the best.

The easiest way to relieve stress. It is like a balm for the body and soul

All this makes many of us feel like we are in a vicious cycle of responsibilities, limitations, fears and our own frustration. What’s worse, due to the epidemic, we have limited possibilities of relieving stress or accumulated negative emotions. Gyms, cinemas, theaters are closed, and due to closed hotels it is also difficult to get away from problems, and there is also a reduction in direct social contacts.

  1. How to deal with stress – methods, exercises

We are really on our own. But that’s not bad news. We often forget that we have a powerful weapon in the fight against stress. It is a distance to the situation (change of attitude) and … laughter or at least a smile (even forced, improves the mood).

It is not without reason that laughter is good for health. Because apart from the fact that it relieves stress and helps in the fight against depression, it also adds energy, greater immunity, stimulates circulation, and therefore also oxygenates.

This is confirmed by Paulina Mikołajczyk, a psychologist from the Damian Medical Center. – Laughter stimulates the secretion of the so-called happiness hormones, of which endorphins are the best known. At the same time, it contributes to the reduction of the level of stress hormones, e.g. cortisol, i.e. reduces tension, improves mood. All problems dissolve in a cheerful atmosphere. The feeling of bliss and fatigue after sincere laughter is like balm for the soul, it relaxes the body. Happy people are perceived as more socially attractive, which of course has a positive effect on relationships – he reminds.

But how do you find yourself ready to laugh in these gloomy times? – Let’s try to distance ourselves for a short while. What matters is what we focus on. If these are pleasant things, it will be easier for us to relax, to forget a little about what is happening around us, the psychologist advises. – Instead of exchanging unpleasant information, let us remember together those pleasant moments and memories that we experienced. This is a great advice for the upcoming holidays.
