In the power of the portion

We eat the contents of the plate and shake the last crumbs out of the package. But more often we are driven not by the feeling of hunger, but by … portion size.

American psychologists Andrew Geier (Andrew Geier) from the University of Pennsylvania and George Doros (Gheorghe Doros) from Yale University believe that the tendency to “portioned” perception in general underlies any of our choices. So, most likely we will eat a whole bagel, and not half and not one and a half, we will ride the attraction once, regardless of whether it works for two or five minutes.

This conclusion is confirmed by the experiment conducted by scientists. For several weeks, containers with free sweets were exhibited in the office – each time in a different package, sometimes larger, sometimes smaller. Despite the sign that offered to take sweets without restriction, visitors and employees preferred to limit themselves to one measuring unit, regardless of its size.

By changing our attitude towards what we consider to be the norm for ourselves, we can not only reduce (excess) weight, but also feel more free from conventions.
