Swimming under high surveillance
Nothing can replace the constant monitoring of Mom or Dad. They must always keep an eye on Baby and never leave him alonewhether by the pool or in the water with you. And if Mum wants to take a dip or if Dad wants to be away for a moment, it is imperative to designate another responsible adult to watch the child, with him in the water.
As a preventive measure, French Swimming Federation recommends swimming lessons from 3-4 years old and encourages toddlers to go underwater from 2-3 years old.
Baby in the water: essential safety rules
As for prudence and foresight, make sure that Baby does not leave his armbands(bearing the CE mark) if it is old enough to wear it, or opt for a float swimsuit. And remember that even if they are necessary, these equipments are not enough to guarantee its safety. The best protection for a child under 5: stay next to him at the distance of an arm!
Near the pool, plan a buoy and pole if necessary, as well as a phone to quickly call for help (if necessary).
And the time for swimming and games is over, remember to put the protective device back in place from the swimming pool, and to take all of Baby’s toys out of the water so that he is not tempted to go and retrieve them …
“A child can drown silently, on less than 3 minutes, in 20 cm of water “ |
And watch out for the sun!
It is well known that Baby’s skin is extremely fragile! The sun is therefore a major enemy not to be faced during the hottest hours. That is why it is recommended to take it to the swimming pool or to the beach only between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and 16 p.m. and 18 p.m., and the brush with cream haute protection, SPF 50+, over the entire surface of the body! An application to be renewed of course regularly. And for all the little darlings – and brunettes! – the hats, caps, etc., must be part of the party, just like the sunglasses !
Against dehydration and any risk of hydrocution, do to drink the child regularly, and wet it gradually starting with the feet, legs, stomach and then the torso. His little body will thus have time to get used to the temperature of the water. And he may well take advantage of it!
