A few years ago I was vacationing at a camp site near Sochi. Every evening the owner treated us to dishes and tinctures of his own preparation. And now, towards the end of the rest, I had a dark-colored liquid with a pleasant aroma of coffee and spices in my glass.
The taste impressed me. When I asked what, in fact, we are drinking today, the owner replied that it was coffee tincture. Back in town, I decided to try making it myself.
The story was sent by blog subscriber Anton.
What ingredients and equipment will be needed
After asking friends and acquaintances, as well as looking at some information on the Internet, I realized that making coffee tincture at home would not be difficult. The main thing is to choose the right ingredients. Moreover, the whole enterprise will not require significant material investments.
Important! To prepare the tincture, it is better to take natural grain coffee, otherwise it will lose its aroma.
So, for cooking we need:
- Coffee. It is better to take the Arabica variety. The vast majority of coffee lovers say that this variety compares favorably with others in its taste and aroma. The price for the package starts from 150 rubles.
- Vodka. It can be replaced with moonshine, the main thing is that the alcohol is of high quality. I took Smirnov vodka – 1 liter for 633 rubles.
- Glass container. It will prepare the tincture. There are no clear requirements for packaging, you can use cans, bottles, etc.
- Gauze and cotton. needed for filtering.
The cooking process
To be honest, I did not succeed in preparing the tincture right away. Excited to find a simple recipe on the internet, I dunked the whole bag of coffee into the vodka. It was a mistake. An unforgivable mistake, for which my heart spoke bad words to me for a long time, as, indeed, did my wife.
For the preparation of tinctures, it is better to use high-quality coffee.
When, after this incident, a neighbor came to me and explained what my mistake was. Then we prepared the tincture together.
Note! Do not pour a large amount of coffee into the tincture.
It turned out that it was not necessary to pour a whole bag of coffee, but only 30-40 grains. I counted 38, just in case. Having poured them into a glass jar (I used the usual 3-liter one, in which my wife pickles cucumbers in winter), we poured the grains with a liter of vodka and tightly corked the lid.
Then it was up to the small thing – to hide the tincture in a dark place, away from prying eyes. I did this in the firm belief that in the dark the vodka would acquire a specific color, although on a subconscious level, of course, I understood that I was just hiding the jar so that my wife would not understand why there were fewer containers for pickling cucumbers.
For a month I languished in anticipation and, finally, could not stand it. After waiting for the right moment, when my wife and the cat were not at home (the cat was offended by me, because the loss of the cans was blamed on him), I got the tincture.
Important! After preparation, the tincture must be strained to remove coffee residues.
Having filtered it into bottles through an impromptu filter made of cotton wool and gauze, I removed the jar away from prying eyes (you never know, suddenly it will come in handy, because the second time the cat can take revenge) and went to a neighbor to taste. Fortunately, his wife and cat went to rest with his mother-in-law.
What will be the result
The tincture is very strong. I didn’t consider myself a professional in the art of alcohol, but I couldn’t be called a beginner either.
However, vodka “with coffee” penetrated me to the very bones. Well, at least not to the very heart, it was already pleasing and said that I was still making some progress in home-brewing.
Important! You can reduce the strength of the tincture by adding sugar.
On the advice of a neighbor, in order to reduce the degrees in the tincture, I added 2 tablespoons of sugar there and left the bottles in his refrigerator for 2 weeks.
The color of the finished tincture is difficult to distinguish from real coffee.
After this time, we miraculously managed to steal the bottles into the garage from the sensitive scent of my wife and cat, who clearly began to suspect something. We also decided to have a tasting there.
A dark brown liquid with a characteristic coffee smell splashed in the glasses. The taste of the tincture was slightly tart. The aroma of alcohol and coffee merged with each other, which gave the tincture its own, unique taste.
What can be added
After one bottle was drunk, my neighbor and I began to think about how we could improve the tincture. No, her taste qualities were at the highest level, you can’t argue with that, but I wanted to invent something new.
Based on our life experience and reviews on the Internet, we decided to add honey to coffee next time.
To discourage the cat’s scent, in addition to honey, they decided to use cardamom and cinnamon.
Note! To improve the taste, you can add various ingredients to the tincture.
There are not so few options for what can be added to the tincture.
A month later, we already tried a new drink in the garage. Do not worry, not a single animal and wife were harmed this time. It’s simple – now coffee vodka was made in the country.
That’s how we found out that coffee can be used not only to wake up in the morning, but also to relax in the evenings. Have you ever tried to use coffee for such purposes?
