In Romania, two people died of West Nile fever

In Romania, two people died and at least five were hospitalized after contracting the West Nile virus, officials in Bucharest said. These are the first cases of contracting this tropical disease in Romania.

Two elderly people, one in the country’s capital and the other in Constana on the Black Sea, died after contracting a virus spread by mosquitoes, said the Romanian Ministry of Health on Monday.

Authorities on Tuesday called on citizens to see a doctor immediately when they notice headaches, muscle aches, fever and nausea.

This year’s record heat in Romania was conducive to the breeding of mosquitoes carrying viruses.

West Nile fever has also appeared in Greece and Our Country, with several deaths reported. (PAP)
