The Constitutional Tribunal has ruled that severe fetal defects are no longer the basis for a legal abortion in Poland. Psychological and legal support will be provided for women who are diagnosed with serious fetal defects, at least in Poznań.

In Poznań, women diagnosed with a severe fetal defect will receive support

The Poznań magistrate announced that the project financed from the city budget will be implemented at least until the end of 2021. The city allocated 30 jobs for the implementation of the task. zloty.

As part of it, women diagnosed with a severe malformation of the fetus and those who are in puerperium, and their child has been diagnosed with a severe, irreversible disease or developmental defect, will be provided with free psychological and legal support. The help provided under the task may also be used by partners of pregnant women and fathers of sick, newborn children.

«Every parent who has to face a diagnosis of irreversible serious defects in their child experiences their own anxieties and dilemmas. As a city, we have been pursuing a pro-family policy for many years and that is why we want to support residents also in these very difficult moments for them ”- said the vice-president of Poznań, Jędrzej Solarski.

Psychological consultations will be tailored to the needs of a specific person, they may take place online, by phone or stationary at the expert’s workplace.

Legal consultations will also be conducted on-line, by phone, e-mail or stationary at the Family Initiatives Center. The city said that their scope will include issues related to prenatal examinations, benefits and other forms of support for parents of sick children, patient rights, rights to information, medical records, leave and allowances rights, and labor law.
