In pizza, in curry: a restaurant has opened in Rome, where all dishes have ice cream

An unusual restaurant “Gelato d’essai” has opened in Rome, serving ice cream in combination with stewed pork or grilled sausages.

In 1686, a Sicilian fisherman who inherited from his grandfather a primitive machine for making cold treats, opened his own cafe in Paris. This is how the first gelateria was born.

And now, 333 years later, a restaurant opens in the capital of Italy, which makes ice cream an obligatory ingredient in all its dishes. We are talking about the establishment “Gelato D’Essai”, which recently opened in Rome.

The restaurant’s menu contains ice cream in every dish, while some combinations are simply amazing – chicken curry with coconut ice cream, sweet and sour pork with pineapple sorbet, zucchini spaghetti with mint, lemon, fried almonds, ricotta and ice cream, seasonal vegetables with yoghurt ice cream, Bianca pizza with pistachio ice cream, spinach and coffee ice cream and much more.

Not without seafood: they offer to try mackerel with spinach and coffee ice cream, and gravlax salmon found a pair with grapefruit dessert.

“My goal is to combine gastronomy and ice cream, presenting ice cream in a way that no one knew about it before,” explains restaurant owner Jeppie Sferra. “The ice cream used in the menu of our restaurant is absolutely ordinary ice cream, I just suggest people use it differently.”

It looks like the establishment is eating every chance of success. After all, Italians just love ice cream, so the average Italian consumes about 6 kg of sweet treats per year. In addition, there are 39000 gelaterias in Italy, 1400 of which are in Rome.

We will remind, earlier we told what we ate in Ancient Rome, and also shared a recipe for healthy ice cream from a fitness trainer.
