More than 80 people, including ten in a serious condition, were taken to a hospital in Mumbai, west India, on Wednesday after chlorine leaked in an industrial area of the city, local fire departments said.
The gas began to evaporate in the morning in the Sevri district. One of the three chlorine cylinders in the port storage facility was leaky. Firefighters ensure that the leak is now under control.
More than 80 people with breathing difficulties, including four firefighters, were taken to hospital. According to the spokesman of the medical facility, 72 people are in a stable condition, but the remaining 10 were placed in the intensive care unit.
Chlorine causes coughing, vomiting, and respiratory irritation. Prolonged inhalation of it can lead to lung damage and even death. (PAP)
