In France, pizza will be cooked by a three-armed chef

Thanks to the agile three-handed pizza maker, pizzas will cook at a speed of 1 – 30 seconds. And the bakery itself will not be closed for a second and will be able to work 24/7, again thanks to the chefs who never get tired.

Of course, we are not talking about people, but about robots. French startup Ekim is set to speed up the pizza-making process by replacing bakers with robots in its XNUMX-hour pizzeria.

The movements of the robot are programmed in such a way as to copy the movements of real chefs, while thanks to the presence of three arms, the robot can make several pizzas at the same time.

The main advantage of robots over humans is not speed, but multitasking. “Our robot is no faster than a pizza maker, as it makes a pizza in 4 minutes and 30 seconds.– says the executive director of Ekim Philip Goldman. – But the robot has three arms, with which it can coordinate tasks and make several pizzas at once. This allows 120 pizzas to be cooked per hour, whereas a pizza maker can only make 40 pizzas per hour.

The developers explain the need to create such a robotic pizzeria by market demands: “Modern people don’t even have half an hour for a snack, so they have to choose between time and quality of food. Our robot offers both».

The idea to entrust the preparation of pizza to robots originated with the founders of the startup as a student. They terribly disliked the quality of the fast food they had to eat as they couldn’t afford to eat in decent restaurants.

To turn to the idea of replacing chefs with robots arose also due to the low popularity of this profession in the field of public catering. Recently, the number of those wishing to become cooks and waiters is decreasing. So, in the USA alone, the industry lacks more than 800 thousand employees. Therefore, robots in kitchens in fast food chains are gradually becoming commonplace. And this applies not only to food startups from Silicon Valley, but also to such giants as McDonald’s, Dunkin ‘Donuts and Wendy’s.

It is interesting that the pizzeria itself will be somewhat different from the classic one. And it will work like a vending machine – using an automated screen, customers will be able to choose their desired pizza from a variety of options.

The pizza will be prepared from Italian and French ingredients, and the choice will be the widest – from the primitive “Margarita” to the most expensive and multi-ingredient.

The robots are now in a showroom in the suburbs of Paris, and Ekim engineers are looking for a suitable location to launch their project.
