In a hospital in Poznań, a giant cancerous tumor was removed

Over 17 kg – this is how much the tumor weighed a few days ago from a 58-year-old patient. The operation was successful.

The 58-year-old patient had been suffering from sarcoma for three years. Why did he allow the tumor to grow gigantic? The mass was not painful, but all the specialists who previously had a man stated that the tumor in the groin could only be removed with the entire lower limb. So the patient made a decision that the moment of the operation would be delayed as long as possible.

The team from the Clinical Hospital of Heliodora Święcicki in Poznań decided that he would try to remove the mass without amputating the limb. The operation lasted five hours and went smoothly. The excised tumor weighed 17,2 kg! The operating team admits that they’ve never come across such a large tumor before.

Now the patient remains in the intensive care unit. The tests will show if the tumor has been completely removed. The 58-year-old is waiting for at least one more surgery, during which he will be implanted with a prosthesis of the pubic symphysis, which had to be removed during the first operation.
