Over half a million deaths in 2021

In terms of deaths, 2020 in Poland was – it seemed then – the darkest year since the end of World War II. 477 thousand died 335 people – by almost 68 thousand. more than in the previous year. The 2020th week of 45 turned out to be the most tragic, i.e. the days from 2 to 8 November. 16 died then. 249 people. The weekly average in 2020 was over 9, while in 2019 – less than 8. deaths.

Economist Rafał Mundry, regularly publishing on Twitter statistics and charts on demographic indicators in Poland at the end of 2021, alarmed that the number of deaths exceeded half a million.

Worse, in the last days of 2021, we climbed even higher on this gloomy list. The peak of the Omicron wave is yet to come, and we still cannot reduce the daily death toll of the fourth wave. On December 30, the Ministry of Health informed about 709 deaths from 14. 325 new infections.
