Sleep problems have become a common ailment in our time. They can be caused by various factors, but they are very bothersome – a person who is sleepy has problems with concentration, becomes nervous and sad, loses the will to live. Long-term insomnia can lead to serious consequences, so it is worth taking care of it. One of the preparations designed for this purpose is Imovane.
Imovane – indications and dosage
Imovane is a preparation in the form of film-coated tablets, available in packs of 5 or 20 tablets. The active substance of the preparation is zopiclone, and its content in one tablet is 7,5 mg. Imovane is a medicine designed to treat insomnia in adults and to help you fall asleep. Taking this preparation helps to get rid of the problem of bothersome waking up during the night, and also improves the quality of sleep and well-being. Imovane should be used in short term therapies. It is available on prescription, and the doctor adjusts the dose to the severity of the symptoms and the patient’s condition. The recommended dose should be strictly adhered to by the patient. The tablets are taken orally just before going to bed. Most often, the therapy should last no longer than 4 weeks, and for a certain period before its completion, the time of reducing the dose and weaning the body from taking the preparation begins. The most common recommended dose of Imovane is one tablet, i.e. 7,5 mg, but in elderly patients, people with renal, hepatic or gastrointestinal insufficiency, the doctor should reduce the dose by half. There are substitutes for Imovane on the market.
Imovane – contraindications and side effects
A contraindication to the use of the drug is hypersensitivity or allergy to the active substance and any other component of the drug. Imovane should not be used by patients suffering from muscle weakness, respiratory and hepatic insufficiency, as well as sleep apnea syndrome. The use of Imovane during pregnancy and breast-feeding is not recommended. Do not use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Possible side effects that may occur while taking Imovane include:
- taste disturbance
- somnolence,
- headaches and dizziness,
- nightmares
- irritability and libido disorders,
- confusional state.
Other side effects of Imovane include indigestion, dry mouth, and muscle weakness. Some patients may develop withdrawal symptoms after the end of the treatment. In addition, during the entire course of the treatment with Imovane, you should not drive or drink alcohol. The possibility of addiction to the preparation increases with the extension of the treatment time, as well as with the increase of the dose. The risk is also greater in patients who have had a history of drug or alcohol addiction, or if the patient consume psychotropic substances concurrently with Imovane.
