Immortelle sandy
Sandy immortelle is not only attractive, but also a medicinal plant. Therefore, many gardeners grow it on their personal plot. But in order for the culture to take root, it needs to create the most comfortable conditions.
Description of the plant sandy immortelle
This perennial herb belongs to the Asteraceae family. In its natural environment, it grows on the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, the European part of Russia and the Caucasus. Prefers sunny meadows and meadows, as well as slopes and thickets of young pine forests. The flowering period occurs from June to August, but in some regions it can last until October.
The plant has single stems reaching 60 cm in height. Peduncles of the culture are small, spherical-tubular, collected in baskets. Each of them can have up to 100 buds at a time. As a rule, they are painted in yellow or orange shades, but sometimes they can be red brick.
The herbaceous plant sandy immortelle can be cultivated outdoors. But this will take some effort. For culture, select the most illuminated area, preferably with sandy soil. But fertile black soil is also suitable. The main thing is that the place is dry, without the close occurrence of groundwater.
Sowing should be started in early May. It is carried out in this way:
- Thoroughly remove all weeds from the area.
- Add a bucket of peat and sand for each square meter.
- Make grooves with a depth of 0,5 cm.The distance between the rows is up to 40 cm.
- Mix the seeds with sand and place them in the indentations. You do not need to fill up the planting with soil.
- Cover the flower bed with polyethylene.
- Moisten the soil constantly until sprouts appear. It is better to do this from a spray bottle.
As soon as the first shoots appear, the shelter must be removed. In the future, the culture needs care. First of all, it consists in constant weeding. Keep in mind that weeds quickly drown out crop growth, so they must be removed immediately. At the same time, it is advisable to carry out weeding manually for the first time.
As for watering, the soil should be moistened only during the driest periods. The plant tolerates the lack of moisture well, but stagnation is destructive for it
If there are snowless winters in your region, then it is better to cover the bushes with spruce branches or peat with the approach of cold weather. Feed your crops with nitroammophos or flowering fertilizer every spring. Once every 4-5 years, it is advisable to transplant the plant to a new location.
The immortelle is a very capricious plant. Therefore, only an experienced florist can grow it.
