Imitation of the taste of tequila at home (aloe vodka tincture)

Real tequila is not made from a cactus, as many people think, but from the juice of a blue agave that grows only in Mexico. But domestic amateur chemists found a way out. They thought of using a plant that, in its chemical composition, is closest to the agave. They turned out to be aloe vera. Now, to make tequila at home, it is enough to get a few leaves of aloe growing in flowerpots.

Attention! The proposed variant of making tequila only imitates the taste of a real drink, but in fact it is not. Although during the tasting, most people cannot distinguish the aloe vodka tincture from the original tequila, but there is still a difference in taste.

Theory

Agave contains a specific polymer of fructose called inulin. After fermentation (fermentation), it turns into alcohol with a recognizable grassy taste and smell. If you insist vodka on a plant with a high content of inulin, you can get a drink that tastes like tequila.

A lot of inulin is found in chicory, Jerusalem artichoke, aloe, bananas, onions and garlic. The problem is that most of these plants have their own persistent smell, so they are not suitable for making homemade tequila. An acceptable result is obtained only from aloe.

tequila recipe

Ingredients:

  • aloe vera leaves – 150 grams;
  • vodka (moonshine, diluted alcohol) – 3 liters;
  • sugar – 3 teaspoons.

Technology

1. Cut the scarlet into small pieces (1 by 1 cm).

2. Place the pieces in a jar, fill them with alcohol.

3. Add sugar to soften the taste.

4. Close the jar with a lid, shake well and put in a dark cool place for 14-17 days. In the process of infusion, homemade tequila will first turn greenish, and then golden.

5. Strain the tincture through a cotton filter, pour into bottles and let it brew for 1-2 days.

6. After filtering, the color of the tequila will remain golden (in some cases with a greenish tint). If this does not suit you, then tequila should be put for 20-30 days in a well-lit place. Under the influence of sunlight, chlorophyll will gradually decompose, and the drink will become transparent.

Another option for clarification is to dilute the resulting tincture with water in a one-to-one ratio and overtake through a moonshine still. But in this case, the taste of tequila will not be so saturated.
