62% of women say that their skin is sensitive, prone to irritation and does not tolerate any cosmetics and even water. 32% of men complain of a feeling of discomfort. How to reduce skin sensitivity? Here’s a dermatologist’s advice.
WHAT DO YOUR PATIENTS WITH SENSITIVE SKIN USUALLY COMPLAINT ABOUT?
There are several visible signs: dryness, rosacea, redness, peeling, flaking of the skin.
Sometimes it is only a feeling of tightness, burning, which intensifies after applying a cosmetic product. This feeling can become constant and unbearable. For the most part, these symptoms appear in women with thin, pale and dry skin, prone to stress.
WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE THEM?
I ask them to eliminate all factors that cause or exacerbate the hypersensitivity identified in my interview.
This applies to both the cosmetic products they use and their lifestyle. I urge them to limit their consumption of alcohol, coffee and spicy foods, avoid temperature changes and exposure to sunlight and wind. In addition, I urge them to stop using cosmetic products containing cortisone. These products help at first, but then further weaken the skin and make it thin.
WHAT CAN YOU USE?
I recommend them to use as few cosmetics as possible. And those that are used should not contain perfume fragrances, or contain in minimal concentrations,
and you should also choose products specifically designed for sensitive skin. You should also stop using ordinary soap and use a cleansing lotion without rinsing with water, as well as apply thermal water to the skin. I encourage patients to use lightweight moisturizers, cold creams, and non-irritating scalp hair products. Finally, I advise you to abandon skin cleansing procedures, exfoliating masks and anti-aging skin products.
