IE error in LG washing machine – how to fix

What to do when LG machine shows IE error on the display? First of all, understand what the fault code means.

The appearance of an error is preceded by a strange behavior of the washing machine: the wash is started, but no water is taken. Or the characteristic noise of the set is heard, but the water is poured too slowly, its quantity is not enough for washing.

Decryption and reasons for the appearance of the code

Models of LG (LG) machines without a display notify of a malfunction by blinking or illuminating the “Main Wash” – “Prewash” indicators.

Note! Some read the IE code as a 1E error in an LG washing machine. Nothing wrong with that.

What does the IE error mean: water is poured into the tank too slowly (after 4 minutes) or does not flow at all.

Possible causes of the problem

For what reasons, the LG washer gives an IE error code on the display:

  1. Fill valve failure. Water may not flow into the tank if the valve is not opened in time. Or it opens quite a bit, so the amount dialed is too small for the SM to work.
  2. Pressure switch failure. In this case, you will hear the sound of water filling, but the system will still give an IE error code.
  3. Faulty electronic controller. If the “brain” of the machine is faulty, all its parts cannot function because they do not receive a signal.

Repair at home

How to correct the situation and troubleshoot? First of all, reboot the system: completely turn off the power to the washer by pulling the plug out of the socket and leave it for 15-20 minutes. If it is a controller failure, then the error will be reset. If not, the code will fire again.

What else can be done:

You have tried all the ways to fix the problem without interfering with the mechanism of the LG machine. If that doesn’t help to resolve the IE error, do the following:

  1. You need to check the intake valve. Unscrew the top panel of the CMA, under it you will see the desired part.
  2. Take a multimeter and measure the resistance of the device, which should normally be 2-4 kOhm. If the indicators indicate a breakdown of the valve electronics, you need to replace the coil.

However, it happens that the indicators are in order, but the valve still does not function. Then it needs to be replaced. For this:

  1. Disconnect the LG washing machine from the network, turn off communications.
  2. Remove the top cover if you haven’t already.
  3. Disconnect the wires from the coil.
  4. Remove clamps and disconnect hoses.
  5. Unscrew the valve fixing bolt, remove the device.
  6. Installing a new element occurs in the reverse order. The video will help you do it right:

If it’s not the valve, keep checking the details.

Inspect the pressure switch, clean its tube from blockage. Also, both the pressure switch and the electronic module can be checked with a multimeter tester for serviceability. When inspecting the module, you may notice burnt tracks that need to be cleaned.

If one of the elements fails, it needs to be replaced.
