This was proved by scientists from Cornell University (USA) and Tampere University of Technology (Finland). For a whole year, there was an analysis of data on changes in body weight of almost 3000 residents of three countries – the United States, Germany and Japan.
In these countries, long holidays like our New Year’s holidays (and therefore the most abundant feasts) happen at different times. In the States, it is Thanksgiving, which falls at the end of November, and also Christmas. Germans celebrate Christmas and Easter feasts. And the main Japanese holidays fall in the spring, then the longest gatherings at the table happen.
Of course, it is on long holidays that everyone eats from the heart, no one counts calories, which means that the annual weight gain is maximum – from 0,6% to 0,8%. After the holidays, as polls have shown, most go on a diet, and it takes about six months or a little more to lose weight.
