Ibufen suspension is a drug used in the treatment of fever of various origins (also in the course of viral infections, in the course of post-vaccination reactions), pain of various origins of mild to moderate intensity: headache, throat and muscle pain (e.g. in the course of viral infections), pain in muscles, joints and bones (e.g. as a result of injuries of the musculoskeletal system), pain due to soft tissue injuries, post-operative pain, toothache, pain after tooth extraction, painful teething, headache, earache associated with inflammation of the middle ear.

Ibufen suspension – action
Ibufen suspension is an over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for children. After use, the drug is absorbed quickly, mainly in the small intestine.
Ibufen suspension – indications and dosage
Ibufen suspension is a medicine intended to relieve symptoms of mild to moderate intensity. It is also used during viral infections and post-vaccination reactions. The preparation is administered orally in the form of a suspension and is intended for children over 6 months of age (under 6 months of age it should be administered only on the recommendation of a doctor). Has a soothing effect on:
- sore throat
- pain in muscles, joints and bones (trauma to the musculoskeletal system),
- pain after soft tissue injuries,
- postoperative pains,
- toothache,
- painful teething,
- headaches,
- ear pain during inflammation.
Dosage of the drug:
Administer orally, after meals, usually 20–30 mg / kg bw / d in the dose. division
- Babies 6-12. m (7,7-9 kg bw). 2,5 ml 3-4 × / day (150-200 mg / day).
- Children 1-3. years (10-15 kg bw). 5 ml 3 × / d (300 mg / d).
- Children 4-6. years (16-20 kg bw). 7,5 ml 3 × / d (450 mg / d).
- Children 7-9. years (21-29 kg bw). 10 ml 3 × / d (600 mg / d).
- Children 10-12. years (30-40 kg bw). 15 ml 3 × / d (900 mg / d).
Usually doses are given every 6-8 hours, there should be at least 4 hours between administrations.
Ibufen suspension and contraindications to use
The main contraindications to the use of Ibufen in the form of a suspension are:
- hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
- active or previous gastric or duodenal ulcer disease,
- gastrointestinal perforation or bleeding, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- severe liver, kidney or heart failure
- parallel use of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including COX-2 inhibitors),
- hemorrhagic diathesis,
- III trimester of pregnancy,
- allergy symptoms such as runny nose, cutaneous urticaria or bronchial asthma after taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in a history.
Ibufen suspension – warnings
- Patients should not take more than the recommended dose.
- The preparation is intended for immediate use.
- Do not take the drug for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.
- People with systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease, gastrointestinal diseases, renal failure, cardiac dysfunction, arterial hypertension, hepatic impairment or blood coagulation disorders should be absolutely careful.
- Gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration and perforation may occur during use.
- When disturbing gastrointestinal symptoms occur, contact a doctor (this especially applies to the elderly).
- Patients with bronchial asthma and allergic reactions to acetylsalicylic acid and taking other medications (especially medications that lower blood pressure, diuretics, cardiac and psychotropic drugs or anticoagulants, such as warfarin), should consult a physician before taking the drug.
- The elderly may be at risk of side effects, the lowest dose should be used for the shortest possible time.
- Occasional visual disturbances have occurred while taking the drug (consult a doctor if this occurs).
- Patients should avoid taking ibuprofen concurrently with ulcerogenic substances or drugs and with drugs that increase the risk of bleeding (anti-aggregating drugs, e.g. acetylsalicylic acid, warfarin, corticosteroids), as there is a possibility of gastrointestinal disorders.
- Renal failure may develop when you use painkillers at the same time for a long time.
- Patients may develop unpleasant skin reactions (stop using the preparation at the first symptoms of allergy, e.g. rash).
- Patients taking the drug may have fertility problems (this is temporary).
- People with hypersensitivity and suffering from atopic dermatitis, asthma and newborns with low birth weight and / or jaundice should be careful as the drug contains sodium benzoate.
- People intolerant to fructose should not take the drug.
- Women in the XNUMXst and XNUMXnd trimester of pregnancy should not take Ibufen D and Ibufen.
- It is contraindicated to use the drug in the third trimester of pregnancy.
- It is not recommended to use the preparation in women in the first and second trimester of pregnancy (only after medical consultation).
- In lactating women, the ibuprofen contained in the drug may pass into the food (no safety data are available during breastfeeding).
- Diabetics can take Ibufen D because it does not contain sugar.
- The presence of sucrose in the drug can cause side effects in people with diabetes, in people with glucose-galactose malabsorption, fructose intolerance or in people with sucrose-isomaltase deficiency.
- There is no information on the influence of the preparation on the ability to drive motor vehicles.
Other medicines and Ibufen suspension
Concomitant use of Ibufen suspension with:
- acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increases the risk of gastrointestinal side effects,
- antihypertensive drugs and diuretics – may reduce their effectiveness,
- anticoagulants – may increase the effect of drugs that reduce blood clotting,
- lithium and methotrexate – may increase the plasma concentration of both lithium and methotrexate,
- zidovudine – bleeding time may be prolonged,
- with corticosteroids (increased risk of gastrointestinal side effects).
Ibufen suspension and side effects
- The following may occur: gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, flatulence, gastritis; headache, dizziness, insomnia, agitation, irritability, tinnitus, or psychotic reactions; non-specific allergic and anaphylactic reactions; Respiratory reactions manifested by asthma, worsening of asthma, bronchospasm or dyspnoea, very rarely, facial swelling of the tongue, larynx, cardiac arrhythmias, low blood pressure and shock;
- The following may appear: skin reactions in the form of rash, itching, urticaria, purpura, angioedema; thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, anemia (first symptoms are fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, flu-like symptoms, epistaxis, bruising, ecchymosis, etc.). Occasionally bullous dermatosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, gastric ulcer or bleeding, tar-like stools, bloody vomiting, worsening of colitis and Crohn’s disease, liver dysfunction, kidney failure, decreased urine output, papillary necrosis increase in plasma sodium, edema, hypertension, heart failure.
- Isolated cases of symptoms associated with aseptic meningitis have been reported in people with autoimmune diseases (e.g. lupus erythematosus). Long-term use of ibuprofen in high doses may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.
