Ibalgin is used for pain of various origins of mild or moderate intensity: headaches (including tension pain and migraine), teeth, lumbosacral region, pain in the course of colds and flu, painful menstruation and fever in the course of flu, colds or other diseases contagious.

Ibalgin – action
Ibalgin is a non-steroidal analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drug with the active substance ibuprofen.
Ibalgin indications and dosage
Ibalgin is indicated for use in pain of mild or moderate intensity:
- headaches (including tension pain and migraine)
- tooth aches
- pains in the lumbosacral region,
- pains in the course of colds and flu,
- in pain during painful menstruation,
- during fever due to flu, colds or other infectious diseases.
Dosage of Ibalgin (oral):
- Adults and children over 12 years of age. Initially 400 mg, then if necessary, 200-400 mg every 4-6 h. Maximum dose 1200 mg / day.
The drug is intended for emergency use.
The use of Ibalgin and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Ibalgin are:
- hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
- active gastric and / or duodenal ulcer disease,
- gastrointestinal perforation or bleeding, including after the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
- III trimester of pregnancy,
- hemorrhagic diathesis,
- severe liver, kidney or heart failure
- do not use in people who have experienced allergy symptoms in the form of rhinitis, urticaria or bronchospasm after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
- do not use in parallel with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including COX-2 inhibitors.
Ibalgin – warnings
- Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
- Particular caution should be exercised in patients with hypertension and / or cardiac dysfunction, with impaired liver function, impaired renal function, systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease, with blood coagulation disorders (ibuprofen may prolong bleeding time).
- Patients with gastrointestinal diseases such as colitis or Crohn’s disease should be careful as symptoms may worsen.
- Taking the drug in patients with bronchial asthma may provoke bronchospasm.
- Elderly patients are at greater risk of side effects, it is recommended to take the drug at a lower dose and for a shorter period of time.
- Gastrointestinal haemorrhage, ulceration or perforation may occur, which may be fatal.
- Patients taking the drug should inform their doctor about disturbing symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract (bleeding), especially in the elderly.
- Use with caution together with anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin, acenocoumarol), anti-aggregating drugs (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid), corticosteroids, as the risk of bleeding and gastrointestinal dysfunction is increased.
- Patients who have been taking the medicine for too long are at risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
- It is cautioned against using ibuprofen and other painkillers in parallel due to the risk of renal failure.
- Transient fertility impairment may occur in women.
- The preparation in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy should be used only in the event of an emergency and after medical consultation.
- Must not be taken in the third trimester of pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding women should consult their doctor.
- There was no effect on the ability to drive in patients taking the drug.
Ibalgin with other drugs
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including ibuprofen, should not be used with the following drugs:
- acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increase the risk of side effects,
- diuretics or antihypertensives, when used simultaneously with Ibalgin, reduce their effect,
- use with anticoagulants may increase their effect (warfarin),
- zidovudine taken with the preparation causes the risk of prolonged bleeding time,
- methotrexate and lithium increase their blood levels when taken together with the drug,
- use with corticosteroids causes a risk of side effects in the gastrointestinal tract;
- heart failure and plasma concentration of cardiac glycosides increases with cardiac glycosides,
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used in the period of 8 to 12 days after the administration of mifepristone may reduce its effectiveness,
- when combined with tacrolimus, the risk of kidney damage increases,
- risk of phototoxicity increases in combination with ciclosporin,
- in combination with quinolone antibiotics, the risk of seizures increases,
- simultaneous consumption of alcohol increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Ibalgin and side effects
- The following may occur: indigestion, abdominal pain and discomfort, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, constipation, vomiting, gastritis, gastrointestinal bleeding and perforation (may be fatal, especially in the elderly), tarry stools, bloody vomiting, peptic ulcer disease, decreased urine output, renal failure, renal papillary necrosis, increased plasma sodium (sodium retention), edema, hypertension, heart failure.
