Preschoolers and the youngest primary school students are the newest group to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Registration started on December 14, and the first injections were given on December 16. During the first day, as reported by the Ministry of Health, around 100 people were enrolled in vaccination against coronavirus. kids.
Young citizens are the only group that will not receive a full dose of the vaccine. They will be given smaller injections of two doses. When it comes to the manufacturer, there is no choice here – only Pfizer is involved, i.e. one of the two mRNA preparations available in Poland.

Parents are divided. Not everyone wants to vaccinate their children
The survey conducted by Medonet shows that among parents of children between 5 and 11 years of age there are many people who do not plan to register for vaccination. Our interlocutors are also strongly divided on this issue. Among the arguments against vaccination, parents cite the fear of possible undesirable reactions, but also the fact that COVID-19 does not pose a threat to children.
Meanwhile, specialists all the time emphasize that nowadays more and more children suffer from severe infection, there are also hospitalizations and deaths.
When it comes to NOPs, mild symptoms after vaccination are by far the most common in this group, such as redness at the injection site or a sore hand.

The vaccination against COVID-19 has been canceled
However, when parents decide to enroll their child for the COVID-19 vaccination, there are times when they face difficulties. This was the case with Ania, we are 6 years old.
– I signed him up for vaccination on the first day, on the first available date. We were supposed to be at the vaccination point on December 16 at 9.00 am. On Wednesday, the day before the vaccination, a lady from the clinic called me saying that we should not come. Vaccination is canceled, there are too few people willing. “We will contact you,” he says in an interview with Medonet.
It’s been a week since then, and the clinic still doesn’t speak.
– I heard from my friend that some clinics gave up ordering vaccines for children, because these are some large deliveries and have a short expiry date. And these doses are different than for adults, so if the children do not come, the vaccines will be wasted – he adds. – I wanted to vaccinate my child, but it failed. And I think that not only I am.
- Editorial recommendation: Scientists have discovered how to get super-resistant to COVID-19
In fact, children receive the “pediatric dose” of COVID-19 vaccine (0,2 ml) from the orange-cap vial (older age groups get the purple-cap vial). The “children’s” ampoule contains 10 doses of the vaccine, which means that just as many preschoolers or younger students should come to a given vaccination point every day, so that the preparation is not wasted. Once the vial is opened, the shelf life of the vial is only a few hours. Unused doses must be disposed of – similar to the preparation for adults. A few months ago, we wrote about the fact that vaccines go to the sink because of the lack of applicants or because the people scheduled for vaccination did not show up at the point.
She heard from the doctor: “Lots of antibodies, it makes no sense”
Kamila’s son is 9 years old and falls ill quite often. That is why the woman had been waiting for months for an opportunity to protect him from COVID-19. Unfortunately, despite the fact that she herself is fully vaccinated and, at the same time, trying to obey the rules of the sanitary regime with the whole family, they failed to protect themselves from the disease.
– It seems to me that my son dragged Delta from school because I work remotely and I had no contact with people at the time – he relates in an interview with Medonet. —It started with pain in the sinuses and stuffy nose, for him the only symptom was a runny nose. After a few days I had no sense of smell and taste anymore and I was literally staggering on my feet, while the young man was coughing, his nose was pouring and he was a bit “dream-like”. We were sick like that for three weeks – he adds.
When the coronavirus gave way, Kamila took her son to the doctor. She wanted to get him tested to see if COVID-19 had left a permanent mark in his body. Then she planned to enroll her son for vaccination.
– After that, I went with the child for a check-up to the doctor (as long as we had symptoms, the little one was only entitled to teleportation – there was no option for the pediatrician to auscultate him and inspect him). I learned that while I really should have a chest X-ray, d-dimer or CRP, my child is simply supposed to take care of immunity now. No additional research.
The doctor recommended Kamila to test her son’s antibody levels if she wanted to vaccinate him against COVID-19.
– She said that children after infection with antibodies are “plenty”. That this immune response is very good with them. I was told straight out: if he has a lot of antibodies, it doesn’t make sense to vaccinate him. We did the research and there were actually quite a few of them, so we’re waiting. We have to repeat the test every few weeks – sums up Kamila.
There was supposed to be a vaccination, and there is a quarantine
Justyna is a mother of two children, aged 7 and 12. She was the hero of our article in which parents talked about whether they would vaccinate their children against COVID-19. Justyna was one of the people who had no doubts and were just waiting for the moment when they would be able to register.
– The last year and a half has been extremely hard for us. I had COVID-19 twice, my daughter went into quarantine four or five times. Recently, for five minutes, she was in the school club with a sick child. Recently she said to me: “Mom, vaccinate me, I don’t want another quarantine anymore”. We all want normality – she said in an interview with Medonet.
Although in the case of this family there was no problem with the refusal to vaccinate, Justyna’s daughter was still not signed up for the injection. She did not make it. Before her mother made an appointment, the 9-year-old was placed in another quarantine.
Justyna, mother of a 7- and 12-year-old girl, who informed us after the publication of this text that her daughter was quarantined again, so they have to wait even longer for the vaccination.
