Scars are a permanent “memento” of operations, mechanical injuries, burns, and laser removal of tattoos. The healing of the wound, and then the scar, is a long-term process and consists in the complete reconstruction of the epidermis. Sometimes, during the healing of the scar, hypertrophy, tendon contractions, itching and tightness may occur. However, there are ways to effectively reduce these side effects. One of them is a clinically proven gel.
What is Contractubex Gel? Action
It is an OTC drug over the counter that is most often recommended by dermatologists around the world (in over 60 countries). Its effectiveness has been confirmed by clinical trials.
Contractubex gel includes:
- onion extract (noticeable in the smell) – showing antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This component prevents excessive scar tissue formation
- heparin – stimulates cell regeneration, binds water in the scar tissue, softens it and prevents the formation of edema,
- allantoin – reduces itching, accelerates the healing process and has a softening effect.
The indications for the use of Contractubex gel are scars:
- enlarged, including swollen, hypertrophic, keloid type,
- restricting movement,
- post-burn,
- postoperative,
- post-accident,
- and tendon contractures caused by injuries.
How to use Contractubex gel?
The manufacturer of Contractubex gel recommends that you only apply it to healed wounds when the swelling has subsided and the scabs have fallen off. The active ingredients of the preparation have a smoothing, anti-proliferative and relaxing effect on the scar tissue. It is best to use the gel several times a day, applying it to the very center of the wound and massaging it to the edges. When applying the preparation, it is also good to gently massage the scar area with circular movements.
In the case of difficult to heal scars, e.g. hard and old scars, we can make an occlusive dressing for the night. It is used to enhance the effect of ointments, gels and preparations applied to wounds. Put the Contractubex gel on a gauze pad and place it in the place of the scar. The place is then wrapped in foil and its edges secured with a plaster. We leave it overnight.
It is recommended that treatment with the scar gel should last from a few weeks to several months. It depends on the type and size of the scar. It is important to avoid exposure to sunlight, low temperatures and any kind of mechanical damage while using Contractubex gel.
Impressions after testing Contractubex gel
I smeared the caesarean section scar (date of cutting 23.10.21/XNUMX/XNUMX) twice a day – in the morning and in the evening after taking a bath. I applied a small amount of gel (the size of a fingertip) to the center of the scar and spread it all the way to the edges. Following the manufacturer’s recommendation, I rubbed the Contractubex gel in circular movements until the preparation was completely absorbed.
The scar before the treatment was smooth, without thickenings and hypertrophy (after a physiotherapeutic consultation). Seven weeks after starting Contractubex, the scar has become visibly lighter and smoother to the touch. Its color is similar to the natural color of the skin. My physiotherapist also noticed the positive effects, saying that it should be practically invisible soon. I no longer feel the discomfort of an itchy scar. I have not noticed an allergic reaction in myself, despite having a very sensitive and prone to irritation skin. I plan to continue the treatment until the product is completely consumed.
Importantly, the product does not stain underwear and clothing (provided that it is carefully rubbed into the scar).
Summary of the test
Pros:
- 50g tube is very efficient. For 7 weeks, I used ½ of the packaging,
- affordable price (about PLN 30 for 20 g and about PLN 55 for 50 g),
- gel consistency,
- the product absorbs quickly and does not stain clothes,
- the packaging is durable and resistant to breaking (which is often the case with ointments sold in aluminum tubes),
- quick action – the color of the scar becomes similar to the skin, and its structure is smoother to the touch.
