It happens that people learn about some congenital pathologies only after some time. So it was with the British Ellie Hansley, who only in adolescence realized that she had no genitals.
We have repeatedly talked about women with certain structural features of the reproductive system, because of which they cannot lead a lifestyle familiar to millions of others. However, the case of Briton Ellie Hansley is even rarer than the others. The fact is that a woman was born not only without a uterus, but also without a vagina. In the usual sense of the word.
The genetic disorder that provoked this feature of Ellie’s body is called Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome. It usually occurs in about one in five thousand cases of girl births and has a wide variety of degrees of severity.
This syndrome is almost impossible to trace during pregnancy with a fetus. It is formed at about the 6-8th week of the term – but, as a rule, it is first noticed when the girl is already entering puberty.
“The doctors called my” non-vagina “” dimple. ” So, my “dimple” was extremely underdeveloped. In fact, I needed to create my own vagina, ”says Hensley, who today leads a fund to help women like herself.
According to Ellie, many years ago, experts suggested that she undergo surgery to form a new vagina – otherwise she simply would not be able to live fully. But this method frightened the girl: after all, intimate plastic is an extremely difficult direction, which is still not developed as successfully as other areas of surgery.
Remained with the British and an alternative option – the development of the vagina with special dilators. And despite the pain, duration and lack of clear guarantees, Hansley decided to do just that.
“For nine months, I pressed various special tubes into my dimple every day. Many years have passed, but I still remember the pose in which this torture took place. When I do yoga and lie down in about the same position, I immediately remember all the horrors. It seems so unreal: me, a 39-year-old woman who lives with a vagina that she made for herself, ”says Ellie.
In fact, today Hensley is almost indistinguishable from other women – and has the ability to have sex. In theory, she can become a mother, since despite the absence of a uterus and vagina, she has ovaries.
Best friend invited Ellie to act as a surrogate mother for her child. But for now, the woman decided to focus on the role of a good aunt for her friend’s three children. Of course, she dreams of knowing the joy of motherhood, but she considers herself not yet ready for this. The fact is that because of her peculiarity, the British woman has experienced many mental problems: from eating disorders to selfharma.
“I need time to recover and finally prepare for this,” Hansley is sure.
