I’m trying to cook Zubrovka on weeds according to a friend’s recipe: what happened after spending 300 rubles

I recently met with my old friend. We had not seen each other for years, probably ten, or even more. Who will remember now? It was almost impossible not to wash such a thing.

Well, it started – guests, a feast and something else that I remember rather vaguely. However, the drink with which my old comrade regaled me remained in my memory for a long time. It was Zubrovka.

Story from my subscriber Anton.

What is it all about

It was this question that I asked myself in the morning when I woke up at a friend’s house, although I remember exactly that yesterday I was going to go home.

After a short interrogation of a comrade, it turned out that Zubrovka itself is called a nondescript grass that grows almost throughout Europe.

Favorite bison and moonshiners grass bison

They say bison were very fond of eating it, which is why it got its name. The people have a dozen more names of this weed. It is not possible for an unprepared person to remember all of them.

One way or another, but soon after the bison, the peasants realized that the grass has various useful properties. Well, that’s where it started. Where it was not only used – in medicine, food industry, perfumery. In general, a lot of places.

Having discovered bison, the people realized one more thing – if you add it to strong alcoholic drinks, they acquire a completely different, more pleasant taste.

The quality of the Soviet era

This is where the true popularity of this weed began. In general, long before Brezhnev, who, by the way, was very fond of this drink, the word Zubrovka among the people began to be associated not with grass, but with alcohol tincture.

Description of taste and photo appearance

A friend, who woke up a little earlier than me, came into the room and, seeing that I was not sleeping, offered to have a hangover. The offer, of course, is tempting, although it should have been refused. After some deliberation, I decided to agree.

When else will you be able to try this tincture! Or maybe a friend under a degree will become kinder and agree to write down a recipe for me? Although, what to write down here … here it would be possible to get to the house.

Well, we will solve problems as they come. Sat down in the kitchen. A friend took out two bottles from under the table, spread a simple snack on the table. Today we decided to do without toast and other rubbish.

And now, in my glass, the golden-green liquid splashes again. In the air, in addition to the smell of bacon, which we decided to have a snack today, there is a light fragrant aroma of field grass.

Charming colors of Zubrovka

This is from Zubrovka, the owner proudly explains. In a moment, the bitter-burning tincture penetrates my body again. Salo slightly softens the bitterness of the aftertaste. Life goes on.

What ingredients do you need

I don’t know what suddenly affected my friend’s mood – either three glasses of Zubrovka, or the sun that came out from behind the clouds, but soon I was diligently writing down the recipe for the drink, trying to do it in such a way that after the hops had disappeared from my head, the record could be read.

A friend in the ten years that we had not seen each other had not changed at all, so I knew for sure that in an hour and a half to get a list of components from him would be almost beyond the bounds of the possible.

So, here’s what I ended up with. To prepare Zubrovka, you need to purchase:

  • alcohol base – 1 liter;
  • fragrant bison – 2 grams;
  • granulated sugar – 1 tbsp. a spoon;
  • water – 2 tbsp. spoons.

Like nothing supernatural. Except for the miracle herb, of course.

Recipe

It was even more difficult to find out from a friend who had begun to sober up how to make a quality drink from this set of products. But I managed to get through this as well.

  1. According to him, almost everything that has a strength of more than 40 degrees can be used as an alcohol base, but vodka, alcohol or moonshine are best suited. In general, this business will have to spend 200-300 rubles.
  2. Next, you need to take a couple of pieces of bison stalks and put them in a jar, well, or another container in which the product will be infused. Here, as my friend convinced me in a slightly slurred voice, the main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise the whole effect will be lost. If you are too lazy to collect grass in the fields, you can buy it at a pharmacy or order it online. The price ranges from 90 to 300 rubles.
  3. I knew about the preparation of sugar syrup before, but this did not stop my friend, and I listened fifteen times how to boil sugar in water, remove the resulting foam from it and cool the whole thing at room temperature. For a long time, my comrade called me stores where they charge 35 rubles per kilogram of sugar instead of the usual 45.
  4. Then everything turned out to be quite banal and understandable. Alcohol and sugar syrup are poured into a jar of grass. After that, everything is thoroughly mixed, the container is clogged and the whole thing is removed in a dark and warm room for 2-3 weeks.

Another friend told me that if you are too lazy to mess with all these complicated machinations, you can buy a ready-made bottle in the store. The price ranges from 148 to 317 rubles. The tincture is sold not only in Russia, but also in Belarus, Poland and America.

The label has changed a little over the years.

It’s strange, there are no conspiracies and secret components, and the drink turns out to be really wonderful. Still, folk drinks are much more pleasant to drink than many popular brands of alcohol. What do you think?
