I’m preparing homemade coconut liqueur for 300 rubles: it turns out no worse than the store-bought Malibu for 2

My friend lives in the country all year round. I really love visiting her. It’s so nice after a week of work to plunge into the silence of the countryside. And my friend has a moonshine still. Yes, the real one!

It is hard to imagine this petite stylish woman brewing moonshine. And what tinctures and liqueurs she makes – you will rock! One of my favorites is coconut liqueur.

For me, its biggest charm is that I can cook it myself. Having tried it with a friend for the first time, I did not leave her without a prescription.

I received such a message from a subscriber Olga Nikolaevna. I love homemade alcohol, but, indeed, it is often difficult and time consuming to prepare it. That is why I am interested in this unusual recipe.

Why I started making coconut liqueur at home

Experiments are always nice, especially if they don’t “hit” your pocket. It was this fact that inspired me to make homemade coconut liqueur. The main advantage is, of course, the price tag.

The cost of the original Malibu liquor per liter bottle can reach 2 thousand rubles. I usually fit in the home version of cooking 300-400 rubles: 60-70 “wooden” for coconut and the rest for strong alcohol.

Costs will be reduced if you yourself are engaged in moonshine. As a bonus to the price and ease of preparation, you get a delicious drink without preservatives and you can be sure of the quality.

Required Ingredients and Preparation

To prepare this unusual liquor, you will need a few ingredients that are sold in almost every mass market. So:

  • water – 500 ml;
  • sugar – 500 gr;
  • strong alcohol – 0,5 l;
  • whole coconut or 100 gr. coconut flakes;
  • vanillin on the tip of a knife.

I did not include sugar, water and vanillin in the cost of the final product, since these products are available in almost any home. But the cost of them will not exceed 50 rubles.

Also for the preparation of liquor you will need:

  • jar with screw cap;
  • grater / blender;
  • gauze;
  • deep bowl.

If the financial situation allows, then instead of vodka you can buy whiskey. Such a liquor to taste will be as close as possible to the store “Malibu”.

In general, choose the drink that you personally like as a basis. It can be Calvados, and cognac, and chacha, and moonshine.

Method of preparation

The preparation of the drink consists of several stages. First you need to process the coconut: peel and chop. For liquor, you only need shavings, and coconut water from a nut can be used in cooking.

It is better to use fresh coconut and grate it. So the liquor will get a richer aroma and taste.

The next step is the longest. We place the chopped coconut in a jar, fill it with strong alcohol and tightly close the lid.

The mixture must be infused for 7 days. During this week, you need to shake the contents of the jar several times. Alcohol will lose its transparency and become milky.

After the “coconut vodka” is ready, it’s time for the sugar syrup. Traditionally, syrup is prepared in a ratio of 1/1, that is, one part sugar and one part water.

But this way the liquor turns out to be too sweet and cloying. Therefore, I reduce the amount of sweetener by 2 times. Sugar and vanillin must be dissolved in water, and then brought to a boil.

The last step is to add the syrup that has cooled to room temperature to the coconut tincture, which must first be carefully filtered through cheesecloth. In this form, the drink should be allowed to rest for several days in the refrigerator. After that, our “Malibu” is ready for use.

What happened as a result

The resulting coconut liqueur can be drunk neat or used to make cocktails. And not only for the banal Pina Colada. There are a lot of cocktails that allow you to reveal the taste of nuts in strong alcohol.

Do not forget to add a few ice cubes to all prepared cocktails.

In order for the drink to retain its taste as long as possible, it must be stored properly. After cooking, it is better to pour it into a dark glass bottle.

The shelf life is about 6 months, but with high-quality clogging and storage in a dark, cool room, the shelf life increases to 3 years. If stored for a long time, sediment may form at the bottom of the bottle.

Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health. Take care of yourself!

Obviously, the coconut liqueur that I make myself is a little different from the store-bought ones. But this drink, moderately sweet and with a pronounced coconut aftertaste, became the king of all parties in my house.

What do you think is better: paying a few thousand rubles for a store-bought Malibu or making your own coconut liqueur for just a few hundred?
