Moscow meets the coronavirus fully armed: temporary hospitals in Sokolniki and Krylatskoye have been reactivated and have been operating for several days. On the one hand, this is a huge help for ordinary hospitals – there is no need to repurpose entire departments for COVID-19, as it was in the spring. On the other hand, everything new is a little scary.
Ekaterina, a patient of a temporary hospital in Sokolniki, spoke with the editorial office of Healthy Food Near Me by phone. Despite a severe cough, the woman shared her impressions of the atmosphere in the hospital.
When and with what symptoms did you go to the hospital?
Received yesterday. I probably have a standard course of coronavirus infection: fever, cough, runny nose, loss of smell, nausea – such unpleasant symptoms comparable to SARS or flu. Except for the loss of my sense of smell, this has never happened to me. Now the temperature has been brought down, in this regard it has become easier.
What to expect during hospitalization, what do doctors do?
They took a lot of tests at once: blood, EKG even looked, listened … And other tests, which, I think, are always done in the hospital. They did a CT scan and she showed pneumonia. Yesterday, in the admissions office, they gave me a bracelet – it has some number, apparently, my card, a QR code, surname, name, patronymic and age. Now I go with this bracelet. Doctors read the information using this QR code. And on my hospital bed there is also a leaflet with a QR code. I was not specifically interested, but it can be assumed that here all the data on treatment, something like a medical record, only in numbers.
Does this hospital look like a regular hospital? If, of course, you have something to compare with.
Actually, I rarely get sick, so I didn’t go to hospitals especially, but since I have two children, I can compare with maternity hospitals. Here, of course, much better equipment, a large number of showers and toilets. There is no such thing that you go, for example, to take a shower or wash, and there is busy. There are even hair dryers in the showers, like in a hotel, which surprised me. In general, all the conditions for treatment.
Do doctors and nurses often come up?
As I managed to find out, there are regular rounds here, in the evening, in the afternoon, in the morning. Sometimes doctors, passing by, ask about their well-being. To be honest, I don’t even always understand who fits. All the doctors are in these protective suits, on which it is written in a marker who it is, but you don’t always read it carefully. But they come up often. Someone will ask how I feel, someone came to give an injection or take an analysis. The attending physician, it seems to me, has already come up to me three or four times today. And the chief physician as part of the council. Not left unattended. If necessary, you can press the button by the bed, this is the nurse call button. You don’t need to go somewhere, look for staff. They are either nearby, or quickly come on call.
In interviews with representatives of the Moscow Department of Health, it is often discussed about the high level of qualifications of medical workers in temporary hospitals. How do you rate them?
One gets the complete impression that they know exactly what they are doing. Doctors act clearly, everyone understands their role to the end. All questions are answered immediately and commented on what they are doing, what kind of medicine they are giving. Even, forgive me for the details, when the patient goes to the toilet, they are immediately there and insure that, God forbid, they do not fall. There are many patients in the hospital who do not feel well. In this state, after all, you can fall out of the blue and break something for yourself. They check if there is water, constantly remind them to drink more. Running past, they say: do not lie on your back, you now only need to lie on your side or stomach. All these little cares create a friendly atmosphere. For us, for patients, this is important.
The most burning question is what is fed in the hospital?
There was delicious porridge for breakfast today. Although it is difficult for me now, when the sense of smell has disappeared, to evaluate the taste. But I feel like it’s something nice. Lunch was also good: cutlet, broccoli, beetroot salad with cheese, bun, juice, tea. This is a lot for me, I don’t eat so much at a time. Everything is not fried and not greasy. I have not yet had time to evaluate all the meals. Yesterday I entered in the afternoon – there was dinner. Breakfast and lunch today. So there will be afternoon tea and supper. Losing weight with such a menu is unlikely to work.
What do you do in your free time? Do you have to be in the ward all the time?
No, you can always walk along the corridor and sit on the sofa. Like other patients, I was offered a tablet with headphones, to watch movies or TV shows. But all the most interesting for me is on my phone, so I gave up the tablet. I reread my favorite book – “The Master and Margarita”, watch films, read news on the Internet, communicate with colleagues at work. In fact, it is impossible to completely go into leisure, we are constantly in the process of treatment. Most of the day is spent on procedures.
And the last question – what advice would you give to those who are afraid of being alone with the virus?
One-on-one will not work. Here, as I said, there are always doctors or nurses nearby. Of course, I would advise you to take care of yourself. Wear masks and gloves, because today you are healthy, and tomorrow, and you have already picked up something. Of course, if you get sick, the doctors will help. They feel very confident, confident in their abilities, and this confidence is transmitted to us.
