The fifth wave of coronavirus infections has caused longer and longer queues to COVID-19 swab points. A significant part of those waiting several hours after taking the sample will receive information about a positive test result. What does this mean for them? Below we explain the basic issues related to the isolation of people infected with the coronavirus.

  1. After receiving information about a positive PCR test result, you go to isolation
  2. Within several dozen hours of confirming the infection, you will be contacted by the health department
  3. Your family members must have a SARS-CoV-2 virus smear
  4. You are not required to use the “Home Quarantine” application
  5. On Wednesday, home isolation may be shortened – informs spokesman of the Ministry of Health Wojciech Andrusiewicz
  6. More information can be found on the Onet homepage

Insulation can be shortened

Below we present the rules of isolation in Poland step by step. However, this time will probably be shortened on Wednesday, February 9, as reported by Wojciech Andrusiewicz, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health. The change in rules is to be associated with the high infectivity of the Omikron variant.

– With this infectiousness of the virus, we can see how quickly people are excluded from the labor market, which has an impact on the economy of our country. These decisions should be made today, up to tomorrow should be taken. (To be held) The crisis team at the Ministry of Health and we want to communicate this to you on Wednesday, said Andrusiewicz.

Wojciech Andrusiewicz also emphasized that at the moment it is not planned to shorten the quarantine period.

You run into isolation

From the moment you receive a referral for a PCR test, you are quarantined. It lasts until the test result is received. If the result is positive, quarantine turns to isolation. From now on, you must be secluded for 10 days. Your doctor may extend this time if your medical condition requires it.

If you are a healthcare professional, soldier or officer, your isolation may be shorter and be seven days from the date of the first positive SARS-CoV-2 test result or five days if the test result is negative not earlier than on the fifth day. Such rules apply from February 2.

  1. Find out how isolation is different from quarantine

In practice, this means that the sooner you report to the swab, the better. If the result is negative, the quarantine will be lifted the next day (if the result appears in the system in the morning, the quarantine lasts until midnight that day).

important: if you do not report for the PCR test despite a referral, you are still in quarantine.

You report your absence from work to your employer

If you work and you perform your duties outside your home, report your absence from work to your employer. Information about the imposition of quarantine or isolation on you should be sent to him automatically, but in the event of a delay in updating information at ZUS, it is worth submitting the relevant document yourself.

important: if your health condition enables you to work, and you can perform professional duties remotely, from home, there are no obstacles for you to work. Arrange the details with your employer.

You do not need to use the «Home Quarantine» application

As an infected person you are under no obligation to install and use the «Home Quarantine» application. As the name suggests, this obligation applies to people in quarantine. It is a tool used to confirm that people exposed to SARS-CoV-2 virus infection remain at home. As a COVID-19 patient, you are not in quarantine, you are in isolation. As infected, it is assumed that you isolate yourself responsibly from others.

important: However, people who live with you must use the app. They will receive instructions by phone as soon as the system receives information that they have had contact with a person with a positive test result (i.e. you) and are under quarantine.

Wait for the health department to contact you

Soon after testing positive for coronavirus an employee of the Department of Health and Safety will contact you. The phone should ring within several hours of the result (usually the next day), however, in the current situation, when there are many infections, this contact may be delayed. The Sanitary Inspectorate will confirm a positive test result and ask you about your well-being. If you are experiencing symptoms of an infection, he will suggest consulting your doctor. The interlocutor will also ask you who you had contact with in the last days, so think about who, apart from your housemates, have you seen.

important: An interview with an employee of the poviat sanitary and epidemiological station is a good time to ask your questions. Sanepid has up-to-date and reliable information on the applicable rules.

Your home mates must perform a PCR test

From December 15, 2021, people living with a COVID-19 patient (with a positive PCR test result) must undergo a test for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Neither the vaccinated nor the convalescents are exempted from this obligation; children must also be registered for a smear test. A referral for a test can be obtained by yourself by completing the form HERE, or you can get it from an employee of the health care center calling the infected person, if we provide the details of co-household members.

important: a negative test result frees people vaccinated against COVID-19 from quarantine. Unvaccinated people can perform such a test only after the infected person is completely isolated (and confirmed) household member (i.e. yours), i.e. on the 11th day after a positive test result at the earliest. If they then fail, they are released from quarantine.

Monitor your health

Whether you are going through COVID-19 asymptomatically or experiencing discomfort, keep an eye on your body. Symptoms of coronavirus infection may not appear until several days after contact with the pathogen, and may also be non-specific, therefore increased vigilance is required. In case of symptomatic infection, pay attention to any worsening of symptoms. If anything worries you, see your doctor, preferably through teleportation.
