«I am very resentful that the media are trying to shape the health policy of the state and that they are spreading falsehoods about the hospital’s operation. (…) Each beginning of business is difficult, this is a new place, new people, everything must be set up, all business processes must be set up to make it the safest for patients, first of all, and safe for employees »- replied Zaczyński to the question about admitting few patients by the Hospital National.
He stressed that the temporary hospital was now fully operational. «For several days now, they have been full of crews who see patients, who come to us, recover, go home, and welcome new patients. There are more and more applications. (…) Practically, the qualification is at the level of 80%, that is, all telephone calls that come to us are practically accepted and patients are transferred »- he emphasized.

Any patient who is not immediately life-threatening may be admitted
As he assured, any patient who is not directly in a life-threatening condition can be admitted to the hospital. In the facility, he said, covid patients with pneumonia, requiring various types of respiratory support, including oxygen therapy, as well as nursing care. Zaczyński pointed out that, however, they cannot go to a temporary hospital, among others people requiring immediate replacement ventilation, having a heart attack, exacerbation of diseases that require specialist or those requiring surgery – because there is no operating theater in the facility.
Asked whether there are also patients requiring ventilator treatment in the hospital, he replied: “Ventilator protection is for patients who will require ventilator therapy and ICU treatment when there are no places in standard hospitals.” He stressed that if there are people who require a ventilator among the hospital patients, “this ventilator will be provided for them”. “We will not have to look for a place in Warsaw or Mazovia, if there are more and more of these patients” – he added.

National hospital too expensive?
Zaczyński was also asked about the allegations of opposition politicians that the National Hospital is an expensive and unjustified undertaking and that temporary facilities could be organized, for example, in old hospital buildings. «I will leave it without a comment, because I don’t think I need a comment. All over the world, large halls, large infrastructures, such as stadiums, entertainment halls are used, which, depending on the outside temperature, are able to, first of all, accommodate a large number of patients on a large surface in order to minimize staffing needs »- he noted.
According to Zaczyński, “the problem of other proposed places is non-functionality”. He stressed that infectious treatment must guarantee the possibility of creating special zones, “one-way circulation of workers, so that they do not become contaminated, there is no back movement”. “All these things can only be planned in large areas” – he added.
