Hypotension – Our doctor’s opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr. Paul Lépine, general practitioner, gives you his opinion on thehypotension :

A patient who explains his fatigue or chronic loss of energy and drive by the fact that he has “low pressure” is often wrong. On the cardiovascular level, we should rather be happy to have low blood pressure. We must look forother causes to a lack of drive and energy.

For a doctor, low blood pressure is something serious when it occurs in such a way. acute et extended and that it leads to symptoms explained by a decrease in blood circulation to the brain (loss of consciousness, mental confusion, inappropriate drowsiness, etc.). It requires immediate attention in a hospital setting.

As for positional hypotension (orthostatic), this transient phenomenon which can lead to falls or loss of consciousness, it is frequently associated with age or taking medication. The search for the cause (s) of the phenomenon should be undertaken by the doctor. Appropriate counseling and medication adjustment may decrease symptoms.
