Food allergy is one of the most common food intolerances in babies. In most cases, substances that trigger an allergic reaction enter the baby’s body with the mother’s milk. To protect the baby from food irritants and normalize hypersensitivity to food, the mother must monitor her diet and adhere to a special diet.
Symptoms of food allergies in children
It should be noted right off the bat that food allergies can be caused by any type of food. Depending on the individual characteristics of the body and the child’s immunity, the causes of allergies can be the features of the digestive tract or increased permeability of the intestinal mucous membranes.
Of course, breastfeeding is convenient and practical, since it is breast milk that contains the optimal amount of nutrients. But it is with mother’s milk that allergens can be transmitted to the child, which are the main causative agents of food intolerance in infants.
It should be noted that the symptoms of food allergy in babies are more complex and varied than in adults. Malaise manifests itself in different ways: it can be itching and peeling of the skin, redness and prickly heat, colic, vomiting and even constipation. That is why at the first symptoms of the baby’s discomfort, the mother should reconsider her menu.
A breastfeeding woman should monitor her diet very carefully so as not to expose her baby to possible allergens.
So, what foods in a mother’s diet are most likely to expose babies to food allergies? Nutritionists divide all products into three large groups according to the degree of their allergenic activity. Moreover, the first two groups of products on this list are strictly prohibited if your child suffers from food intolerances. In order for a nursing mother to compose a menu that is safe for the baby, you should pay attention to the third group of products.
By observing the hypoallergenic principle and not eating foods that irritate the gastric mucosa, mothers, to some extent, can protect their children from food allergies. At the same time, a lot also depends on the way the products are processed. It is better if the menu is composed of steamed, boiled or baked dishes.
An ideal hypoallergenic diet for a nursing mom might include:
- lean meats
- pasta
- dairy products
- cereals
- vegetables (except cabbage and cucumbers) and fruits (citrus fruits, strawberries are not allowed), as well as greens
- bread (it must be borne in mind that black causes gas in babies), olive oil
In addition, a nursing mother should diversify her menu, since a monotonous daily diet can also be a source of allergen formation.
Please note that food additives, not the product itself, can cause an allergic reaction in infants.
Remember that any recipe for a nursing mom’s menu must be proven, of high quality and prepared with fresh ingredients.
