Hyperpigmentation: how to get rid of age spots

What you need to know about age spots, what procedures will help to cope with this problem.

Summer ended too quickly, but we can see its consequences on our face – a slight bronze tan, as well as age spots that spoil the whole picture. Most often, they appear due to the fact that you forget to use sunscreen, and ultraviolet rays do not spare anyone. There are a lot of reasons for darkening of certain areas of the skin: genetic predisposition, frequent trams, post-acne, internal causes (for example, pregnancy or old age). There are a lot of origins of this pathology, but this does not mean that you will have to walk with them all your life. We learned from an expert what methods of dealing with hyperpigmentation exist and which one to choose for you.

Maria Bondareva, dermatologist, cosmetologist at the Remedy Lab clinic:

A hardware procedure that destroys the pigment with the help of a light wave of a certain length (as well as dilated vessels – they are the result of photoaging), and after a while, by exfoliation, the pigment spots disappear.

Light on the surface of the skin is absorbed by the pigment and destroys it. This is a course procedure, which is recommended to be carried out once every 3 weeks (in a course of 4-5 procedures). The effect lasts up to two years. Supportive procedures can be carried out every 2-3 months.

Phototherapy is one of the most effective treatments, but it is recommended to carry out it in autumn or winter – when there is no bright sun.

Acid-based peels can work with superficial pigmentation. The beautician makes an application to a selected area of a composition containing an active component of an acid in a certain, precisely calculated concentration. Dissolving layer by layer the surface of the epidermis, the peeling gradually penetrates deeper and deeper and erases all skin imperfections. Exfoliating the skin also removes age spots.

Today, peels with the addition of retinol are used (when retinol is used in addition to acids). In addition to the exfoliating effect, it also manages to slow down the formation of new pigment and improve the quality of the skin, rejuvenating it.

Injection of drugs that lighten the skin and destroy pigment. As a rule, mesotherapy is used in combination with other procedures: phototherapy or peels. In this case, an effective combination of effects on the pigment is obtained.

In addition to the action of pharmacological substances, the regeneration process is triggered directly by the technology itself: a puncture of the skin stimulates reflex points. And due to the use of an anesthetic during the procedure, discomfort is minimized.

In order to prevent pigmentation, medical procedures are not recommended, and diagnostics will be very useful. For example, skin diagnostics using special devices allows the doctor, using the images obtained, to see a deep-seated pigment that is not yet visible on the skin.

In this way, it is possible to predict whether pigmentation will appear or progress, in order to adjust the care and develop a suitable treatment program.

Home care

If a tendency to the formation of pigment is noticeable, then home care is corrected as follows: a prerequisite is the presence of a high-quality sunscreen (since the sun is the main source of the appearance of pigment).

The next essential components in the care are antioxidants, which should be different: some in the morning, others in the evening.

In addition, one of the important elements of the care program is consultation with related specialists to identify possible foci of chronic infection, since pigmentation often acts as a response to it. It will not be superfluous to check the level of hormones, since hormonal pigmentation is quite common.

It is worth paying attention to antioxidants that reduce the formation of pigment, namely: floritin, ferulic acid, vitamin C

Cosmetology products in the fight against pigmentation: a competent composition

Of the bleaching agents (permitted on the territory of the Russian Federation) retinol, acids (azelaic, citric and mandelic acids) are currently popular. Also, peptides that are widely used today (for example, oligopeptide-31), the ingredient arbutin and some plant extracts also have a slight brightening effect.

A distinctive feature of products that will work to lighten the skin is a multicomponent composition. The combination of several recommended ingredients, the concentration of which is acceptable and safe, makes the product particularly effective and does not cause skin irritation.
