Hydrocort 0,5% is used in acute inflammatory conditions of allergic origin (atopic dermatitis), scalp psoriasis, long-term psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus, erythema multiforme, lichen planus with intense pruritus, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema and symptomatic treatment of acute non-infectious, allergic or inflammatory skin diseases, insect bites, dermal drug reactions, XNUMXst and XNUMXnd degree burns, neurodermatitis.

Hydrocort 0,5% – indications and dosage
Hydrocort 0,5% is a preparation recommended for:
- acute inflammation of allergic origin (atopic dermatitis),
- hairy skin psoriasis,
- long-term psoriasis,
- systemic lupus erythematosus,
- erythema multiforme,
- lichen planus with severe itching,
- seborrheic dermatitis,
- eczema becomes scaly,
- symptomatic treatment of acute non-infectious allergic or inflammatory skin diseases,
- insect bites,
- skin drug reactions,
- XNUMXst and XNUMXnd degree burns,
- neurodermatitis.
Use
Lubricate the affected areas 2-3 times / d with a thin layer of Hydrocort 0,5% ointment. After improvement, the ointment is applied 2-3 times / week, for a maximum of 10-14 days.
Hydrocort 0,5% and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Hydrocort 0,5% are:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
- bacterial, viral or fungal skin infections
- precancerous conditions,
- skin cancer,
- ordinary and rosacea acne,
- dermatitis perioralis, after preventive vaccinations,
- use very carefully on the eyelids of patients with glaucoma and patients with cataracts,
- should not be used in patients with vasculitis, Bürger’s disease,
- use on the skin of the face and in children up to 12 years of age only on the recommendation of a specialist doctor.
Hydrocort 0,5% – warnings
- Hydrocortisone should not be used until a diagnosis is made.
- If irritation symptoms occur, treatment should be discontinued.
- If an infection occurs, appropriate causal treatment (antibacterial, antifungal therapy) should be used.
- There is a small risk of systemic corticosteroid side effects, including adrenal suppression and Cushing’s syndrome with prolonged use, use on broken skin, high doses or over a large surface area.
- Children may experience systemic side effects of corticosteroids more easily than adults, including suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and impaired growth and development.
- The risk of increased absorption of Hydrocort 0,5% into the body also exists in the case of skin diseases with excessive dryness and / or thinning of the skin, increased body temperature, and acute skin inflammation.
- Contact of Hydrocort 0,5% with the eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided.
- Hydrocort 0,5% should not be used on the eyelids or on the skin around the eyelids, due to the risk of glaucoma or cataracts; do not use in people with glaucoma or cataracts due to the risk of aggravation of the disease symptoms.
- Use on the skin of the face and the skin of the armpits and groin only when absolutely necessary due to the increased absorption of the corticosteroid through the delicate skin and the associated increased risk of dilation of small blood vessels, dermatitis perioralis, skin atrophy (even after short use).
- Do not use the drug under an occlusive dressing.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with psoriasis because of the risk of recurrence and the risk of generalized pustular psoriasis.
- Do not use long-term use in diabetics.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of tuberculosis.
- Due to the content of propyl and methyl parahydroxybenzoate, the drug may cause allergic reactions.
- The safety of the preparation in pregnant and lactating women has not been established. Before using the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult a doctor – use only when, in the doctor’s opinion, the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the fetus (during this period, do not use in high doses or for a long time).
Hydrocort 0,5% – interactions
There are no data on the interaction of Hydrocort 0,5% with other drugs.
Hydrocort 0,5% – side effects
When using Hydrocort 0,5%, the following may occur: purpura, symptoms of skin irritation (burning, redness, excessive dryness), skin atrophy, widening of small blood vessels, skin discoloration, bacterial, viral and fungal infections (mainly after using closed dressings), as well as delayed healing of wounds and ulcers. Allergic reactions due to an allergy to the excipients may also occur. Existing lesions are rarely exacerbated. When the preparation is used on the skin of the eyelids, glaucoma or cataracts may sometimes occur. The preparation applied to the facial skin can cause dermatitis perioralis, atrophic dermatitis and permanent vasodilation quite quickly. In the case of long-term use (longer than 14 days), atrophic dermatitis, skin stretch marks, delayed scar formation may occur. Systemic side effects characteristic of corticosteroids, e.g. suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, Cushing’s syndrome, inhibition of growth and development in children.
