Hydrangea red: varieties of red

Hydrangea red: varieties of red

Hydrangea red is a type of large-leaved hydrangia. It is an ornamental garden plant and is in demand among florists and landscape designers.

Hydrangea is a sprawling shrub with large leaves, where corymbose-type inflorescences are based on each stem.

Hydrangea turns red if the soil underneath is slightly acidic

Breeders have bred many varieties of red hydrangeas, each of which blooms in different shades. The flowering period is July and August, but even after the inflorescences have faded, the plant retains a presentable appearance. Therefore, these varieties are often used to decorate the garden.

The color of the plant’s flowers is controlled by regulating the acidity of the soil in which the hydrangea grows.

Planting and caring for red hydrangeas

In order for your site to be decorated with a bright hydrangea, you do not need to buy any particular crop variety, it is enough to grow an ordinary large-leaved shrub, taking into account the amendments for the necessary soil composition and care.

Growing recommendations:

  • Start planting the cuttings in open ground no earlier than May – the flower does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature and may not survive the frosts inherent in early spring.
  • Try to plant the culture in soil with a slightly alkaline reaction, only then the flowers will delight you with a rich red hue.
  • The most suitable place is light shade and distance from large trees. The fact is that hydrangia loves moisture very much, close proximity to large plantings threatens that hydrangeas will not have enough water.
  • Observe the recommended distance between bushes of 100-120 cm and be sure to take care of creating drainage.

It is necessary to water the hydrangea only with rain or settled water, so you will not allow chlorosis of the leaves. To maintain the red color of the inflorescences, it is necessary to constantly monitor the level of acid and iron in the soil.

Experienced gardeners often turn to special, ready-made fertilizer complexes – with their help, you can easily change the composition of the earth. Fertilizers with a high content of phosphorus and nitrogen are also suitable for feeding.

Subject to all the recommendations received, your site will be decorated with spreading bushes, on the stems of which are full of red hats. Remember, hydrangea can be experimented with by adjusting the composition of the land in which it grows.
