Hydrangea Bobo: description, planting and care
Hydrangea “Bobo” is an excellent solution for small garden plots or a veranda. Compact bushes do not lose their attractiveness almost all summer.
Description of hydrangea “Bobo”
Hydrangea was bred not so long ago by Belgian breeders and has already gained popularity. Its main advantage is its small size while maintaining its visual appeal. The size of the bush does not exceed 70 cm, and its width can be 50 cm.
The plant belongs to panicle hydrangeas, therefore its inflorescences are collected in pyramidal panicles. The color of these panicles can be white, pink, or lemon. Moreover, adding iron or aluminum sulfate during planting, you can achieve unusual shades of this flower. Hydrangea leaves are dark green, oval.
Planting and caring for the Bobo hydrangea
This bush does not create any problems when planting, but it is advisable to know its preferences. Hydrangea will not freeze in winter, but it will not tolerate drought. Bright sun is not for these flowers, they love partial shade. The soil must be acidic and well drained.
Its indisputable advantage when landing is its small size. It does not take up much space on the site, it can generally be placed in a flowerpot. It is better to plant it in a place sheltered from the wind:
- Shorten the shoots of the seedling to 3-4 buds and trim the roots.
- Fill the planting hole with a mixture of soil and peat – 2 parts each and 1 part each of humus and sand. Add mineral fertilizers: superphosphate – 65 and 25 g each of urea and potassium sulfate. You can add spruce sawdust or needles to the mixture.
- Water the plant and loosen the soil to allow the roots to breathe.
- Mulch the bush with sawdust and foliage to retain moisture.
It is better to plant a hydrangea in the fall, so that it has time to take root in a new place. For the winter, the young sprout must be covered.
Taking care of the plant is easy. It is necessary to carry out pruning, feeding and watering it regularly. It is necessary to cut the hydrangea in early spring up to 3-5 buds, and also remove dry shoots. You will have to feed it with organic fertilizer in the spring, during the period of bud growth and flowering – with complex fertilizer, and in the fall – with superphosphate.
Another secret is preparing the plant for winter. Hydrangea is quite hardy against frost, but some measures are worth taking:
- already in September, reduce the number of waterings;
- cover the shrub with peat or foliage 10 cm from the ground;
- bend the tied bush to the ground and cover it with spruce branches.
The latter action is not necessary for temperate climates, but you can play it safe. But the leaves on the hydrangea must be removed with the onset of frost, leaving a few covering the buds.
Hydrangea will not take up much space and will not force you to work on it day and night. And delicate shades of fluffy panicles will decorate even a small front garden.
