Covid passport – since when?
Although the certification regulation will apply from 1 July, all Member States that have passed the technical tests and are ready to issue and verify certificates can already start using the scheme on a voluntary basis. On Tuesday, seven EU countries decided to do so, other countries decided to launch the EU digital COVID certificate after they implement all the functions of the system, the European Commission said.
So far, 10 EU countries have connected to the IT infrastructure, including 7 countries that have started to provide the first certificates, reports the AFP agency.
Where does the covid passport work?
Athens confirmed that it has launched its platform: “Citizens can print this certificate and travel,” said Greek Minister of Digital Affairs Kyriakos Pierrakakis.
In Croatia, digital COVID certificates “work”, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković told MPs, holding his own certificate in his hand.
Bulgaria and Poland announced that they are ready to release them on Tuesday.
According to the European Commission, Germany will introduce its system first in some regions, and fully – by the end of June. People who are already vaccinated will automatically receive an electronic version of the document.
The digital proof of vaccination in Germany will be available through the CovPass app, which is connected to the EU platform and is intended to provide vaccination evidence, up-to-date test results or a history of COVID -19 in participating countries. Also paper, the so-called the yellow vaccination card is still valid.

Germany: covid passport
In Germany, field tests with a digital vaccination certificate have been carried out at some vaccination sites since last week. This will allow you to see if, after vaccination, citizens can scan the evidence using the app. This should facilitate travel checks. While the German app displays the proof of double vaccination in blue, the EU has proposed green for digital vaccination certificates.
In the Czech Republic, certificates will first be issued and recognized by seven EU countries (Austria, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland) under bilateral agreements, AFP reported, claiming to be the health ministry.

Covid passport in the Czech Republic
On June 1, the Czech Republic launched a special mobile application that is to be used instead of paper certificates for vaccination, coronavirus tests or confirmation of a past COVID-19 disease. The application is primarily intended to allow you to travel to neighboring countries as well as to Croatia and Slovenia. The Czech Republic has concluded bilateral agreements with these countries providing for the recognition of certificates or information confirmed in the application.
The Czech Republic, when concluding the agreements, recognized that the first dose of the vaccine is already providing the necessary immunity against the coronavirus; at least 22 days must elapse thereafter. At least 14 days must elapse after administration of the single-dose vaccine. Certificates of Hungarians, who are the only ones in the EU to use and Chinese preparations, are to be honored in the Czech Republic. The certificate in the mobile application is intended to cross borders, but also to enter restaurants, museums or participate in cultural or sports activities.
In Denmark, a new version of the certificate is ready from Friday and will be included in the European certificate. Danes can download the “Coronapas” smartphone application, known as the coronavirus passport, from May 28. On that day, this solution was presented by the government at the airport in Copenhagen.
How does a covid passport work?
The application includes a QR code that, when scanned, allows you to enter museums, restaurants or sports events. The app includes information about 14 days after being fully vaccinated for COVID-19, having a valid 72 hours negative COVID-19 test, or having passed the disease within eight months. Unlike the application “MinSundhed” that has been used in Denmark since March, the code does not contain any sensitive information, nor does it indicate a reason for being safe, but is merely a “green” pass that can only be read by an electronic device.
However, this also has its drawbacks. There are offers to resell code scans on social media, although they are only valid for an hour after being generated. According to the Danish authorities, the developers of the Trifork and Netcompany applications are also working on improving it in terms of security.
In Denmark, the coronavirus passport is a joint venture of the Digitization Authority, the Office of Health and Medicines, the Ministry of Health and the Institute for Infectious Diseases Serum. Its introduction cost is CZK 50 million (EUR 6,7 million). Danish authorities hope that the coronavirus passport used in Denmark will be recognized by other countries at the borders. The first step is to be recognized by EU countries from 1 July.

In Greece, the new so-called the green passport, or the European COVID-19 Digital Certificate, is available in both physical and digital form and is free to all EU residents. The certificate, which will be recognized in all EU countries, can only be obtained by people who are in possession of a valid passport or ID card with a surname in Latin alphabet.
Passport works with unique QR codes to guarantee their authenticity. The content of the certificate is written in both Greek and English. In Greece, there are two possible ways to obtain a passport. Either you will be able to register on the gov.gr online platform using your personal passwords to Taxisnet, the website of the Greek Tax Office, or the AMKA social security number, or you can use the Citizen Service Centers (KEP).
The passport tells you whether the holder has completed the Covid-19 vaccination process with one of the EU-authorized vaccines, tested negative (PCR or rapid) in the last 72 hours, or recovered from COVID within the last six months. The test result, both negative and positive, must be entered in the COVID -19 Patient Register, health care unit, diagnostic center or laboratory where the test was performed.
The European Commission has created a portal through which it will be possible to verify all passports throughout the Union. Personal data contained in your passport will not pass through this portal as it is not necessary to verify the digital signature. The certificate will be valid throughout the EU from July 1, but from June 1, its holders can use it in countries that have joined the EC portal.
