How, what and what to glue the tiles in the bathroom
The quality of the final result of wall cladding with tiles is laid before the start of the work on its installation. Do not forget that the bathroom is the wettest room in the whole house, so you need to know how and how to glue the tiles in the bathroom so that the cladding does not fall off in the coming days.
How to glue tiles in the bathroom: the preparatory stage
First of all, it is necessary to calculate the exact amount of material required. This must be done separately for the floor and walls. In this case, it is necessary to lay 10% of the margin required for trimming in height and corners.
You also need to prepare the base, that is, put the walls and floor in order. The result should be a surface:
- smooth without cracks and shells;
- tear-resistant.
The walls should be strictly vertical and the floor strictly horizontal.
The prepared area must be primed with a compound suitable for this surface before laying.
What can be glued tiles in the bathroom: choose the type of glue
Manufacturers offer many types of tile gluing products. Conventionally, 5 groups of tile glue can be distinguished:
- thin layer. Designed for work on practically level surfaces;
- thick layer. Used for cladding uneven surfaces. Overlapping of a layer of more than 10 mm is allowed;
- elastic. It is used for wall cladding with tiles that cannot absorb moisture. It is widely used to decorate a “warm” floor;
- epoxy. It is a fully waterproof tile adhesive. Designed specifically for bathrooms. It can be used as a grout;
- fungicidal. The main difference between the material is the presence of additives against fungus and mold.
The choice of glue depends on the specific case. For example, if the ventilation in the bathroom is not organized correctly, then it is better to choose a fungicidal adhesive.
How to glue bathroom tiles: cladding
Before starting work, you need to prepare the tool. You will need a notched trowel and tile cutter. The cladding process is as follows:
- a straight line is drawn along the surface of the wall. It is she who will serve as a guide for laying the first row of tiles;
- the selected type of adhesive is applied to each tile and distributed over the entire surface.
The tile is placed in the adhesive layer with gentle tapping or turning movements.
You can glue the tiles on any surface prepared for this purpose. If you plan to lay tiles on drywall or other non-moisture resistant surface, it must first be treated with a waterproofing compound.
If you follow the recommendations for preparation and installation, even a non-professional can get a decent result.
