So that the animal does not have a stable fear of water procedures and hostility to them, the following recommendations must be observed:
- you can bathe the dog both in a shared bath and in a separate container, the main thing is that the dog feels comfortable;
- the wool is carefully combed beforehand, if it is long, small debris and tangles are removed;
- before you put the dog in the bath, you need to fill it with water to about the middle of the animal’s hind legs. For convenience, a rubber mat can be placed on the bottom of the bath so that the paws do not slip;
- it is better not to water the dog immediately from the shower, but first carefully wet the hair with your hands;
- do not allow water to enter the animal’s ears, eyes and nose;
- the coat is lathered gently, with light massaging movements. It is necessary to ensure that the dog does not lick off the detergent;
- the shampoo is washed off thoroughly, at least twice, from head to tail;
- wipe the dog gently, as if wetting the coat with a soft towel. All movements are only in the direction of the coat.
How often can you bathe your dog? Not more than once a month. In animals, there is a layer of sebum on the skin that protects it from the harmful effects of the external environment. If you wash it off too often, skin problems can arise – itching, flaking. Therefore, if the pet gets very dirty during walks, it is enough to wash its paws.
If your dog is scared while bathing, you should speak to him in a calm, gentle voice.
There is a large assortment of shampoos for animals on sale. It can be chosen taking into account the characteristics of the dog – for sensitive skin, for animals with allergies, softening the coat. You can consult your veterinarian and ask him to recommend the most suitable brand.
How to wash a dog if there is no special shampoo at hand? Can you use the one that is meant for people?
They have one drawback: a large number of perfumery fragrances that are harmful to animals.
But if you do this very rarely, as an exception in the absence of a suitable remedy, nothing terrible will happen.
