When washing windows, especially in winter, traces of moisture may remain on them. This “fog”, in turn, not only interferes with viewing, but can also lead to the formation of frost or even mold.
“Fog” is water condensed on glass, or rather, steam in the air. Upon contact with a cold surface, it turns into microdroplets. Therefore, the reasons for the formation of condensate-“fog” can be very different:
Large temperature difference between the house and outside;
High air humidity;
The presence of a large number of plants near the windows;
Poor air circulation;
Drying clothes indoors;
Kitchen heating with gas stove;
Slots in wooden frames or incorrect installation of a plastic window.
If you understand what is the reason for the formation of “fog”, you can start processing. You will need:
a bucket of water;
lint-free fabric;
household sponge;
salt;
glycerol;
alcohol or vodka;
glass cleaner;
silicone water dispenser;
old newspapers.
The cause of condensation can be grease deposited on the windows, which accumulates a lot of moisture. Even if it is not visually noticeable, a thin layer of plaque is still present.
Clean the window with glass cleaner or this way:
Dilute five tablespoons of liquid soap in a bucket of water;
Wash the window with soapy water;
Wipe the glass dry with a lint-free cloth;
Remove residual liquid with silicone water;
Sprinkle the sponge with alcohol or vodka;
Gently wipe the glass with it and let it dry.
To prevent the glasses from fogging up in the future, you can use a solution of glycerin. It will cover the window with a thin film that prevents moisture from appearing. What should be done:
Mix glycerin with alcohol or vodka in a ratio of 1 to 10;
Lubricate the glass with the resulting solution;
Leave to dry.
If you are cleaning your windows in the winter, you can use an old-fashioned saline solution. Salt also prevents the formation of frost on the glass. For this:
Prepare a saline solution in the ratio of 2 tablespoons of salt to 500 ml of water;
Wipe the window with a solution;
If a white coating appears on the glass, repeat the procedure by diluting the solution with water.
Tip:You can also use newspaper instead of a lint-free cloth. The composition of printing ink includes components that repel moisture. In addition, with the help of newspapers it is easier to get rid of divorces.
How to prevent windows from fogging up again
Often “fog” and condensation on the windows are caused by high humidity. A special dehumidifier will help get rid of the problem. Also, this feature is available in many air conditioners.
If your home is poorly ventilated, open windows when it’s not damp or raining outside. You can also install a fan in front of the window. This will help dry the room, and moisture will stop collecting so much on the glass. The fan also distributes the air in your apartment, which prevents mold and mildew.
If you don’t have a tumble dryer, try hanging your clothes outside to dry. When clothes are dried at home, moisture gets into the air and settles on the windows. If you can’t dry your clothes outside, try drying your clothes with a hair dryer to circulate the moisture a bit.
Plants on the windowsill can cause windows to fog up, as they release some moisture during photosynthesis. Try rearranging some of the colors to other places.
If you have a wooden frame, all the gaps between it and the glass must be glued with a special adhesive tape or sealed with sealant. Wash the window to remove dust before processing, otherwise the tape may not adhere well.
How to wash the windows in the car so as not to sweat
The windows in the car need regular cleaning 1-2 times a month, as dirty windows fog up more. And this is not only ugly, but also dangerous, because condensate can block the view while driving! Luckily, there are a few easy ways to clear misted windows and prevent fogging from reoccurring:
Once a month, clean the windows inside with glass cleaner, because dirty glasses fog up more. Use a lint-free cloth for cleaning.
Spray a special defogger onto a clean, lint-free cloth and wipe the inside of the windows. Let it dry for a minute, do not touch the windows with your hands, otherwise difficult-to-remove greasy stains will form. This spray can be purchased at any auto supply store. It will prevent moisture from accumulating on the windows and prevent fogging.
Match the sock to the color of your salon. Fill it with silicone cat litter or silicone gel sachets that you put in your shoes. They may take some time to start working, but they are good at absorbing excess moisture in the air and preventing fogging.
