How to wash a leather lacquer jacket and is it possible to do it at all
In general, the question of washing leather products is quite common, and some types of leather that allow high humidity and normal drying of products can be cleaned with water. But for those who want to know how to wash a lacquered leather jacket or handbag, we can only advise you to remember the peculiarities of the material and abandon this idea.
Lacquer jacket: care and features of use
Genuine leather with lacquer coating looks very impressive, but at the same time it is one of the most capricious materials to use.
- The gloss of the surface is achieved thanks to a special treatment; it is quite easy to damage this layer.
- Any cleaning action must be carried out manually, machine wash is unacceptable: after it, creases will remain, the product will become hard and uncomfortable to wear.
- Soapy solution with the addition of glycerin is, perhaps, the only option for water treatment of lacquer things.
- It is better to use an ordinary soft cloth, a cut onion (rubbing the contaminated surface with it, gradually cutting off the darkening layers).
For fair skin, the use of milk is also permissible: a tampon is moistened in it and the surface of the product is wiped, bringing it to a shine with flannel or cloth. By the way, this method is applicable not only to lacquer things.
It should be noted that the cleaning option is still professional products designed specifically for patent leather. Considering that outerwear usually gets dirty in some places – on pockets, lapels, cuffs, sleeves – the consumption of the cleaning agent is low.
Basic remedies for the care of patent leather:
- velvet (flannel, soft cloth) of a suitable color;
- milk (in small quantities);
- glycerin and castor oil – they soften the skin, are applied for a short period of time and removed with a soft cloth, after the skin is polished to a shine;
- chopped onions (see recommendations above);
- special care products for lacquered leather goods (the packaging must contain the indication Lack Polish).
Leather lacquer jackets: how you can not handle
It has already been said above: you cannot wash such things in a washing machine, aqueous cleaning solutions necessarily include glycerin and must be removed from the surface as quickly as possible.
- For light, especially bright skin, even using them is undesirable: streaks may appear.
- It is extremely harmful for lacquered jackets to come into contact with things that can scratch them – metal fasteners, cabinet doors, and so on. Store such clothes in a tight fabric cover, periodically ventilating.
And of course you shouldn’t clean a shiny jacket with regular shoe polish.
