How to wash a blanket at home

Whether a blanket can be washed at home depends on its filler. Some products can only be tidied up dry. If there is no indication on the label about the need to take it to dry cleaning, you can wash the thing yourself.

How to wash a synthetic filled comforter

Such products are filled with padding polyester, silicone, holofiber, tinsulate, nanofiber or artificial swan’s down. They are inexpensive and long lasting. In the synthetic filler, ticks do not start, there are no animal proteins that provoke allergies. The products are unpretentious in care and, after proper washing, quickly restore their volume and shape.

The holofiber blanket can be machine washed by setting the “synthetic” mode

Washing instructions for synthetic filled blankets:

  • use liquid detergent instead of powder. Pour it in just a little so that there is not a lot of foam. Don’t use bleach;
  • treat stubborn dirt with a stain remover before washing;
  • wash the blanket separately from other things;
  • the optimum water temperature for hand wash is 30 ° C;
  • It is convenient to wash the blanket by hand in the bath. Do not rub the product too vigorously. At the end, rinse it thoroughly, changing the water 3-5 times;
  • Do not twist or lift a wet blanket. After removing the cork, leave it for a couple of hours in the bathtub to glass the water;
  • in the machine, the blanket is washed in the “synthetic” mode at a temperature of 40 ° C. Spin – 800 rpm.

Depending on the size and type of filling, synthetic blankets weigh 950-1500 g. Their low weight allows them to be machine washed with a load volume of 5 kg or more. At the same time, it is difficult to place such an oversized blanket in the drum, therefore, it must be folded compactly before washing. This will also make it easier to remove the wet item from the car.

How to properly wash natural filled duvets

Down, woolen, cotton, bamboo and silk duvets keep you warm. They can last up to 20 years, provided they are regularly cleaned and ventilated. For most blankets with natural filling, automatic washing in the machine with a load volume of 7 kg or more is acceptable.

You can wash your blanket at home in a machine with a load of 5–7 kg.

Instructions on how to wash a blanket at home:

  • use washing gels. For a silk item, use a delicate fabric cleaner;
  • remove stains from the surface of the blanket before washing. Do not use bleach or chlorine-based stain removers;
  • put a couple of tennis balls with the duvet – this way the filler will not break during the washing process;
  • wash cottons in the cotton setting at 40-60 ° C. Spin – 800 rpm.
  • Quilts with silk, bamboo and down are washed on a delicate cycle at 30 ° C. Spin – 500 revolutions.

Sheepskin, camel or cashmere products are hand washed only. A woolen blanket is pre-soaked in warm water with the addition of liquid soap or shampoo. After 1-2 hours, the solution is drained from the bath. The stains on the blanket are washed off. Rinse twice in warm water, a third time in cold water, then leave it to drain at the bottom of the bath. Any blanket is dried unfolded in a warm room. The down product is periodically shaken.

So, some blankets cannot be washed – they are handed over to dry cleaning. It is recommended to subject the product to wet processing no more than 2-3 times a year.
