Those who have large apartments in new buildings can be envied. But still, most people are forced to live in apartments with small rooms. If you follow fairly simple rules, then with a minimum investment of time, effort and money, you can visually expand the space.
How to visually expand a room
To make the ceilings look high, it is enough to make them mirrored. A few years ago, this advice was taken literally and several mirrors were attached to the ceiling, specially cut to the desired size. The room became somewhat like a dance hall, and the mirrors did not always fit into the interior. It’s much easier now. The most budgetary option is to paint the ceiling with glossy paint. The second solution to the problem is to order glossy stretch ceilings in light colors (white, milk, sand, ivory). Dismantling the central chandelier will help to enhance the effect. It is better to purchase several round fixtures and arrange them around the entire perimeter of the ceiling in the order you like. Another original option is to create a drywall structure. The guides are lined up in such a way that a recess is created in the center of the ceiling, and along the walls the ceiling is several centimeters lower.
Playing with colors can easily solve the problem of limited space. Designers recommend using light pink, light blue, light green, sand and other pastel colors in the interior. It is thanks to the color that various effects can be created. So, blue will visually move objects away, and yellow will bring them closer. Large drawings on the walls and wallpaper with a clear symmetrical ornament should be discarded. Dark and velvet-effect finishes make the room look narrower and smaller. If the room is in the shape of a rectangle, you can combine plain wallpaper and wallpaper with a pattern. In general, the right combination of colors and textures is the most optimal solution for a small room cluttered with things.
To visually increase the space, cover three walls with wallpaper of the same color, and the fourth, the lightest, with the same wallpaper, but a tone lighter
Another piece of advice that was once given in the magazine “Cosmopolitan” is the uniform color scheme of the room. The base color should tie the space together. And to make the interior more interesting will help color accents (bright pillows, paintings, plants).
If you have a dark room (there is a tree outside the window or just the windows are not on the sunny side), it makes sense to play with the light. Correctly positioned lamps will make the room not only larger, but also more comfortable. It makes sense to install transparent glass or crystal light sources. The eye does not “cling” to such elements, but in general they create a feeling of lightness and airiness.
You can expand the space not only with the help of wall decor. If possible, get rid of old furniture that has lost its “marketable” appearance. Better to get newer and more modern models. For small apartments, multifunctional furniture will be an ideal option.
The corner sofa-transformer can perform its direct function during the day, and at night it can become a spacious and comfortable sleeping place for family members or guests
Keep it clean and resist the temptation to fill the room with non-functional items. If a few family photos on the shelf create coziness, then children’s toys next to the vases will look simply ridiculous and serve as a place for dust accumulation.
