Before using the washing machine, it is worth learning how to do it correctly. Check out the user manual for tips in this article. You need to know how to properly use the washer, how often to wash and how not to harm the laundry.
Rules for using the machine
Most people after the purchase are convinced that they do not need instructions for using the washing machine and can figure out how it works on their own. But it’s not.
Before washing, be sure to read the instructions – it contains important nuances and rules, if not followed, the machine may break down.
Following the instructions will greatly facilitate the process of using the machine. The brochure shows the washing modes and the possibilities of household appliances. You will quickly understand whether this or that fabric can be washed in your machine. And most importantly – you do not have to think about which mode to run.
Sorting things
Washing is preceded by sorting. Clothes labels have tags with washing instructions: some clothes shrink after washing in hot water, some clothes can be washed with substances that contain bleach. Some fabrics should not be washed with bleach.
- Sort by color. If clothes that are prone to shedding get into the drum with light clothes, all things will deteriorate. The easiest way to sort by color is to divide into piles: one contains light-colored clothes, the second – dark ones.
- Sorted by weight. In addition to sorting by shades, it is worth separating things by weight so as not to spoil them. Sort light and heavy items into piles. Many washing machines provide for spinning clothes, therefore, when washing heavy things with light ones, the latter can deteriorate.
- Sort by degree of pollution. Put the most soiled items in one pile, and the slightly soiled ones in the second. Items in the first pile may need additional processing before washing. Without the treatment of complex stains, such things are not recommended to be washed in a typewriter.
How to wash things in the machine
After you have sorted the laundry by color and weight, start washing. Turn on the machine, set the mode and select the temperature.
Включение
Before you start the drum with dirty laundry, you must turn on the appliance. Usually starting is not difficult. As mentioned above – read the instructions, it shows all the stages of turning on the washer.
But a few useful recommendations for turning on the machine will not hurt:
- Connect the machine to the sewer and pipeline.
- Check the drain system. Incorrect installation of the drain hose can cause flooding.
- Press the “Start” key.
- Pour detergent into the powder receiver, select the washing mode according to the fabrics. Set the optimum temperature.
- Start washing with the program start button.
Selecting the optimum temperature
Modern models provide the ability to set the temperature in manual mode. To determine at what temperature to wash things in a washing machine, you need to consider the type of fabric:
- When washing delicate fabrics, such as silk or wool, choose a temperature of no more than 30 degrees. Cold water treats such tissues with care and does not harm them.
- At 30-40 degrees, wash home textiles (curtains, bed linen).
- Wash heavily soiled items at 40-60 degrees. This temperature setting can be used for towels, bedding sets, children’s clothing.
- At 95 degrees, complex stains are removed, linen is disinfected, and soft toys are washed.
Important! Before setting the temperature, look at the label of the item. It indicates at what temperature the clothes can be washed.
Choosing the Right Mode
After turning on the machine, the washing modes will be displayed on the panel. Some models have a special knob – turning it, select the mode. Each of them is designed for a specific type of fabric.
In such programs as “Cotton”, “Wool”, “Jeans”, the manufacturer took care of automatic temperature control, washing duration and spin speed. Most models provide a quick mode, which is suitable for refreshing things.
After selecting the appropriate program, turn on the washing machine by pressing the “Start” button.
What are the modes
In modern washing machines, automatic machines of different brands can have from 5 to 30 programs. The washing mode for linen and cotton linen (Cotton) is popular. Also use the mode intended for the care of synthetic fabrics (Synthetics). A program with a 30-degree temperature regime is suitable for washing any laundry.
On a note. By choosing the appropriate mode, you will not damage things from delicate fabrics and wash them with high quality.
Delicate or hand wash
This program is designed for delicate washing of fine and light fabrics. You will see an imitation of hand washing – a slight rocking of the drum. There is practically no effect on the tissue, so the risk of damage is minimal.
Fast-30
This program is suitable for refreshing things that have been stored in the closet. Also suitable for lightly soiled clothing. Washing time in a washing machine, depending on the model of equipment, is from 20 to 40 minutes. The main feature of this program is the saving of electricity and detergents.
Features:
- used to rinse clothes;
- suitable for colored things;
- saves resources.
Pre-wash – fighting stains and dirt
This mode is identical to soaking laundry. It is used for things with heavy pollution and difficult to remove stains.
Intensive mode – clean laundry
If your thing is spoiled by a stain, an intensive wash will do a great job of removing it. Rules for using the washing machine in intensive mode:
- Treat the stain before sending the item to the drum.
- Set the temperature to 40 degrees – this is the first step.
- Choose a temperature of 90-95 degrees and set a long wash cycle – the second stage.
Now you will not be confused about which mode is suitable for wool or cotton. Recall that the instructions for your machine contain a complete list of all modes and additional functions with their description.
Laundry Detergents
How the washing machine cleans depends on the quality of the selected detergent. So, what you need to know about the powder and other means:
- Buy powders designed for a specific type of fabric. The packaging should indicate that the product is suitable for machine washing.
- For white clothes, use products that contain bleach – they not only wash clothes and remove dirt, but also return snow-whiteness.
- Wash multi-colored fabrics with detergents that do not contain bleach.
- When choosing between dry and liquid powders, it is better to give preference to the latter. Liquid products contain a high concentration of active substances – they are better washed out of things.
- If you need to remove a tough stain, use only high quality bleaches (for white fabrics) and stain removers.
- To soften things, use conditioners.

Machine care
In order for the equipment to serve for a long time and work properly, care is needed. There are a few simple rules to remember:
- There should be no foreign objects in the drum, so be sure to check the pockets before washing and remove coins, buttons, etc. from them. Otherwise, foreign bodies may damage the washer.
- If you need to turn off the machine during washing, press the “Pause” button. Do not unplug the power cord from the socket to avoid damaging the electronics.
- It is recommended to clean the drain filter at least once a month, in which small debris accumulates.
- Once every few months, descale your washer using citric acid, soda ash, or vinegar.
Now you know how to use the washer correctly. You no longer need to think about which washing program to choose for a certain fabric and what detergents to use. Feel free to start the machine.
